Is this a fair guess/assessment of the situation, and why we ended up wasting so much time and money buying two players for the same position last season? Carto spotted Indi. Hughes wasn't so sure as he wanted a ball player, tried to get Wimmer but was knocked back. They ended up with Indi late on loan. Hughes said he would take him and have a look. Club sorted a fee out in case the manager liked him. Indi performed very well. Club wanted Indi but Hughes still wanted Wimmer. Hughes dug his heels in and got Wimmer, but accepted Indi to get Wimmer. ? I think what’s more likely is Hughes wanted 532. With big doubts over Ryan’s long term fitness was looking at a 3 of Wimmer, Zouma, Indi. Got them in but was then told due to the spend we can’t subsidise 2 wingbacks. Why not make do with Dioufy and Eric. Yes that's spot on Cobs, Ryan's fitness suggested we needed another CB and the board wouldn't sanction a CB and wingbacks pathetic really. Bauer and Badou would have made a huge difference if they were signed last summer

Are you saying that if the deals had got close to completion, our board would have pulled the plug? If so, do you have any evidence for that? I see things very differently to you. I had no problem with Hughes wanting to play 352 - I just couldn't understand why he persisted with it for months once it was clear that he didn't have the wing backs to do it once the season started.

We all know mistakes were made but what value do made up conversations between the board and manager add?

My only concern would be the distance. I’m not sure it is far enough - I would prefer that he went to another continent.

Why isn’t Hughes in for him if he’s so sure of his quality?

1 year in to a 5 year deal at £18m = £14.4m on the books. Looks like anything less than a £10m write off is good business. Less bad business.

I really don't get why we're so rushed to get rid of him? He’s on 70k a week and wasn’t even fit enough to get on our bench or train with first team. We also paid 18m for him. And now we have been relegated to the championship where that sort of wage is unsustainable even for a key player.

But you are right and that is a massive hit re the wages. But the loss on the fee would be massive. I dunno, it just seems like there's little thought in this part of his "journey" here as there was in signing him.

I really don't get why we're so rushed to get rid of him? Seriously???? Seriously. What are we going to get for him? 5m? Still paying 20-40k of his wages. Just seems a big hit to me especially when there is a decent player in there.

However as he hasn't shown any interest in getting himself fit then it's hard to see how he would be any use to us a player

In any business it is sometimes worth just cutting your losses - this is one of those times.

A marquee player like that should have been a regular starter for the 1st team not the U23s.

A marquee player like that should have been a regular starter for the 1st team not the U23s. But that's the problem isn't it? I thought he was a good player before we signed him and I still think he could be a good player now but he was never going to be a starter once Indi had signed. We've almost got to look past that and I don't think we are. It's not his fault the club paid that much for him. His fitness is his fault, he's a fat fuck or was the last time we saw him. If he still is now then I too will chuck rotten tomatoes at him for not sorting that out but I haven't seen the evidence to suggest it either way. Bar him being banished by a manager who loves banishing players when he probably shouldn't. It was a stupid signing for a whole host of reasons.

At what we paid for him and are paying him, and with Zouma gone, I see no alternative but to keep him. What if another manager (not Lambert) wants to play three at the back? Either way, we need three experienced centre backs and unless someone offers us at least £10 million, he has to stay and get another chance.

Get rid of the dead weight. There are plenty centre backs we could sign on lower wages that could do the job in the championship.

Who knows if he'd find his feet in the Championship? And the ball in League One?

Do we know he hasn't? As he said, he's played the U23 games and shown a willing there. Bayern, he's fat and wank pal, move on. Agreed. Truly awful defender who did OK in one or two games which saw lots of people (myself included) rush to get excited and give him credit. In reality, those were the exceptions to the rule of him being utter dog-pops. We need to cut our losses so if someone will take him off our hands now, let's get him gone. Next season we'll have Shawcross, BMI, Cameron and we can get someone else in with experience at Championship level who will be more likely to play consistently well than this unprofessional joke of a footballer.

Wimmer can't jump.
If you look at the goals we conceded from set pieces or crosses when he was playing you can usually find him feet planted firmly on the ground while the opposition player heads the ball in.
Even going back to a "highlights" video compiled before he joined Spurs, the only defensive headers shown had him feet firmly planted on terra firma.
It would appear that he can't jump and has never been able to jump. (Well done to our scouting team for failing to spot that "minor" flaw!)
The Championship has changed a bit in the last 10 years but I suspect that there are still a few teams with a big centre forward or who are practised at set pieces. I am sure that those teams would love to play against a team with a non-jumping centre half.
If Wimmer was a liability on crosses in the Premier League, he will be more so in The Championship.

Like Leeds did with Doobs back in the day. I can't see how European clubs would afford him else unless there is a wage drop?
