I've just been sent this email. I read it before somewhere maybe on this board. So if it was on this board sorry for putting it here again.
This might just work!
Subject: Petrol/Diesel Prices = must read
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it We are hitting 118.9p petrol/123.9p diesel per litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 120.9p/125.9 per litre.
A Philip Hollsworth has offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the “don't buy petrol/diesel on a certain day campaign” that was going around last April or May!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol/diesel. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers.
With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol/diesel come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol/Diesel! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol/diesel from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.
If they are not selling any petrol/diesel, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol/diesel buyers. It's really simple to do!!
Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it...
THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us forwards this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!!
Acting together, we can make a difference .
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES substantially and certainly below 100p per litre
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol/diesel at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso

TBH mucka the most expensive diesel fuel around here is 133.9p at Ashburton services just off A38 and they are shell. Morrisons at Totnes is 126.9 for diesel. This tactic has been suggested before and has not worked because people always want somebody else to do the dirty work. The only real answer is either to get brown to reduce the tax levy on fuel or blockades as in 2001.
The tax revenue has increased in line with petrol prices: ie fuel tax+Vat on fuel is about 75%. Therefore 75% of 100p a litre is 75p and 75% on 133.9p a litre is 100.4p . brown is raking in 25% more tax to use to pay for his socialist policies......so I guess its blockades then!!!!

The thing is though at the end of the day is that WE NEED petrol and diesel so they can charge us whatever they want!!
The prices will just carry on going up and up, not gonna drop anytime soon i dont think.

Hitting BP, Shell or Esso is going to make absolutely fuck all difference.
The fact of the matter is that the oil price is going to continue to go up for the time being. The only way it will come down again is if OPEC release more oil to the market. They have the infrastructure to do that but its in thier interest to keep the price high and for that you cant blame them.
Similiarly, most Oil companies, the majors and the small players, have it in their interest to get as much of the black gold out of the ground ASAP and take advantage of high prices. Like a poster on this thread says its about time Gordon Brown dropped the tax on fuel - 1.30 a litre is way too much.
I live in Singapore - who import ALL of their energy sources - and petrol here is still only about the equivalent of a quid. And this place in notoriuous for its taxation policies.
A common misconception in the general public is that oil companies make most of their profits from petrol. In fact the petrochemical industry is huge - and you will see a rise in many other consumer goods as the oil price rise filters throught.
Hopefully the US will increase production - they are the biggest users but they are holding back from releasing oil to their own market and trying to convince the Arabs to increase exports to them. Its this and the weak dollar that are the problem.
The only way round it is a full-scale invasion of Saudi - or blockades like 2001.

Its an idea though - just have no confidence that it will work but wish it would.
Something must be done but I think that no-one (inc me) will do anything about it. I've had my motor for 4 years now and it has always cost £50 to fill, until recently.... when I filled up on Saturday it cost £65, and that was at Asda where the cost was lower than many other local outlets.
Its still bullshit

won't make a difference. Where do you think Sainsburys / Asda / Tesco get their petrol from?

I'm a freelance courier and its starting to bite hard. we can just hope to last it out as long as poss cos a lot of small couriers will go under soon but the government will HAVE to step in sooner or later even if its only as a sweetner for a general election
