Moyes was the guy I wanted, a bloke to run the club top to bottom with a track record in recruitment and producing the "best of the rest" style side.
This shows how naive the board are for me.
Astounding

The point is if true then it shows the club were close to sacking Hughes back then

So we decided we'd replace him in October and waited 2 and a half months on the back of one win?
Hilarious.

You can’t blame them for thinking it was the turning point
By then the list of candidates got smaller

Would have been the right time to change for me....straight after the Bournemouth game.
Looks like that Watford win kept him in the job for 2 months longer than it should have done

Id seen Moyes at the Britannia a few times during his unemployed stage, pre & after his Sunderland exploits, he used to park a big Porsche on the West Car Park. Bet Coates has been in loose contact with him for a while prior to him taking the West Ham job on, does like his home nation managers doesn't he Peter..

I don't think we have the squad for him to have done anything. West Ham's squad is infinitely better than ours - just look at the 2 benches tonight.

Thinking back, when Fletcher scored the winning goal him and a good few of the team made a beeline for Hughes to celebrate with so maybe they'd got wind of it all?

I don't think Stoke will come out and publicly back Lambert straight away, if relegated. I would imagine they would hang fire as 2 of Coates wet dream managers might become available, Moyes & Allardyce?

So he's the one we originally wanted?
More importantly, Hughes' job was safe because of a flukey Fletcher goal leading to a scraped 1-0 away win at an awful Watford. It gets better.

I didn't/don't want either of them. I'd have been gutted if we had appointed him, but Moyes is a significantly better manager than Lambert. He's had a few bad years after the United job, but the broader picture of his managerial track record tells you that. By the time Moyes was Lambert's age, he'd been the Everton manager for 10 years. Lambert has spent the last 6 years relegating Villa and getting sacked by Championship clubs. But we shouldn't even be discussing the merits of Lambert or Moyes. The fact that the same tired faces keep getting all the low-to-midtable Premier League jobs is why the general quality of the division is so low.

"I don’t know what all the fuss is about, but we were a Darren Fletcher goal away from sacking him 6 weeks ago (and since then we've got 5 points from 7 games)" would have been an interesting line for him to take in that December interview!

I just don't think he would have been given the cash to get what we needed and what we needed may not have been available. We did try really hard though.
