He is not a perfect striker, but he is the BEST striker in Stoke City. Crouch is still better at 37. Needs to go with Crouch up top, Diouf on right and Bauer at RB for rest of season

Needs to go with Crouch up top, Diouf on right and Bauer at RB for rest of season As soon as Crouch comes on we lose control of the game and the opposition push 5-10 metres further forward. I never want him on the pitch again.

Atrocious footballer, how he gets game time god only knows. The competition is Crouch & Berahino. That’s your answer. I’d go Choupo Moting upfront if for for the rest of the season.

Free transfer. What a legacy Peter. To be fair we were prepared to break our transfer record to sign him and he had a good record in a good league. He’s been ok overall. I think the hype fooled some of us (me) into thinking he’d be brilliant but he’s basically a rich man’s Cameron Jerome. He’s also not a lone striker as long as I’ve got a hole in my arse. He looks 100% spent now and nowhere near the required standard.

Yet again the decision not to invest in a striker in Jan looks worse by the day when Mame Diouf is our best option up top

The fact we were prepared to break our record on him then ended up getting him for free is quite apt and in line with how our club has been run over the last few seasons.

So the real problem maybe that there were no funds for a real class striker or that the club manager Scholes and lack of talent spotter Fartwright are a major part of this problem.. Hughes may have given up with asking for players knowing that he was only going to get donkeys. We have all been wishing and hoping that the next transfer was the one that bought in players that were needed not just those that were cheap.

Hughes chased him for over a season before he got him.
He is fast, full of energy, and Duracell powered; he's not a bad header, but his first touch is dreadful and shooting pretty poor. In summary he is not good enough for the Prem.
Hughes moved him to wing back where he was reasonable but not good enough for the Prem. there either.
One quality he had as a striker was a poacher instinct; he regularly got into scoring positions (often to mess up), but his spell as a WB seems to have spoilt that because I haven't seen any of it since he has moved back to striker. Had he been persisted with up front by Hughes I'm sure he would have got >10 goals in a season.
I have posted repeatedly on here: would you expect a top class golfer, tennis player, batsman to be any good after taking a year out of top class competitive sport? The answer has to be no, you lose your edge and may never recover it. It can be recovered as Federer has shown. But we have witnessed a string of players at Stoke who have spent a season or more on the sidelines and they have "lost it", and I would suspect will never recover their best form. It may be a year of sitting on the bench like Bony, Wimmer, Berahino, at their previous club, or a long period out due to injury like Bojan, Wingie, or Afellay. I doubt Diouf will ever get back to being an even average Prem striker, having missed most of a season from the role.

Nothing I've seen since has convinced me otherwise. He's a great bloke, a 100-per-center no doubt - but he's a very poor footballer. It's become painful to watch him lately. But you can see people's argument when it comes to 'who is our best striker?'. They are all shit, in their own way.

I've seen some poor players over the years in a Stoke shirt and Diouf is right up there with the worst. Relying on him as our main striker is one of the reasons we are going down. Should have fucked him off ages ago!.

A decent squad player who is adaptable and gets on with the job. Not got enough quality to be a main, first choice striker in premier league.
The fact that he is still our best and only real option as a striker even when not fully fit (which he clearly isn't) is damning of our transfer dealings over the last couple of years.

Might not be enough, but at least we then will have a plan when going forward, aim it at Crouchy!

What is the injury news on him?. If he's injured we have Hobson's choice as to who plays up front against Tottenham?
