Anyone else really looking forward to this? Literally everyone has written it off as a hammering, and chances are, yes we will lose comfortably.
But then I imagine Wigan thought that the other week too. There is absolutely no pressure on us for this game because we are expected to get smashed.
I actually think this situation might suit us a bit more. Today was tense and nervous because of where Soton are in the table, and the implications if we were to lose.
It'll be a great atmosphere under the lights, against the champions elect, on TV, a proper siege mentality, backs to the wall, old school feel to it.
Football throws up some strange results at times. It's only a very very small chance, but it's still a chance. I wouldn't completely write off this fixture just yet.
Imagine the lift it would give everyone going into the Everton game?

We are favourites to win (see the other thread for a factual explanation), so of course I'm looking forward to the game.

All I want us to do is put up a decent performance, defend well and try and create a few chances if possible.
If that’s a 0-0 draw or a 0-4 defeat what will be will be, Man City are on a different stratosphere to us at the moment, but we can still move onto the next game with a few positives if we play as well as we can to combat them....

Given no chance at all there is no pressure on and for once I won't be too pissed off when we lose.
Just hope Jack keeps the score down to single figures as I can't see a better opportunity for him to claim the England jersey.
Has any team played 1-9-1 formation before?

I can see a thoroughly depressing 3-0 defeat with a stoic rear guard defensive formation with Man City having something like 75% possession. Entertaining stuff this Premier League.

If we played Wigan now they'd probably beat us.

Been a few years since I posted on here.Looking forward to coming to your place despite Sky messing up yet another kick off time.Great move getting rid of Hughes, he bought players for us that we struggled to get rid of years later,Santa Cruz springs to mind . Genuinely hope you stay up as it’s a near Away day and there are many others that I would prefer see the back of for a while.I have watched us for decades and this is the best team I’ve ever seen but Football is unpredictable as I witnessed at Wigan the other week. This season will be eventful for all.

This is a free hit, a bonus. We have started to defend properly again, 3 clean sheets since Lambert arrived. If we can shut them out first half, then you never know. It'll give the crowd some encouragement. We all need to really get behind the lads.

It won't be 7 this time hopefully? Thing is, we get a battling 0-2 defeat v City, another resolute draw against Everton and then nothing against Arsenal and Spurs and that leaves us on 28 points with 5 games left (one of which is Liverpool away). That means we then need to get 8 points from those remaining 12 v West Ham, Burnley, Palace and Swansea - and that's just to end up with 36 points!? Sadly, I think it's going to require at least 2 other sides to drop like stone for us to stay up?

They are that little bit too good and we are a big bit too poor to put this in the possible upset category I’m afraid. As has been said above the only thing you could really draw from that Wigan cup tie is that Wigan looked a distinctly better set up than we are.

Not from the outset, but Pulis if he grabs a 1-0 lead in the 1st five min. Though sometimes reverts to a 1-10 just to consolidate his lead...

The game will commence at 0-0 and last for approximately ninety minutes. All expectation in the football world is for a Stoke defeat! Is that any reason at all to lie down and hand them the three points on a plate? I personally hate people who are supposed to be Stoke fans who are already resigned to losing. We have reached a point where we are getting players fit from injury and so can put out our best team to combat Man City. What a massive task we have before us! Tactics are going to be critical. They have pace in all departments so we can only really sit deep in my eyes because we do not have a great deal of pace. I would play five at the back and in Bauer and Staffylidis we at least have two pacy combatative full backs. We also require combatative players in midfield so we shouldn't entertain players who are not willing to close down very quickly. Shaqiri should be given a role up front with Jese.

Hellu!
Since it probably will be a battle to the last game of the season and goal difference will decide, it's important not to concede too many goals.
0-0 0-1 1-1
