ryanair are offering free flights till midnight tonight (airport taxes to pay), you may already have transport taken care of buddy, but there you go. Last time I went was when I was 15 in 1990 and the paddys were going mad for the world cup, top drinking place now but not cheap I've heard, have a good un.

Nice one mate, best place for the atmosphere is temple bar, lively and kind of bohemian/arty. Popular with the ladies for their hen nights too! ;D

If you got on a dirt cheap with the flight treat yourself to a decent hotel. Istayed at the Hilton years back and it was well worth it. 5 minutes walk from the action and just far enough away to get a good kip. Top bacon and eggs too. ;D
Guiness factory surprisingly good and my wife enjoyed the bus tour.

Temple Bar a real tourist area which I personally avoid- used to be a complete shit-hole but now bars/restaurants etc
Not sure what your budget is but Chief O'Neills an impressive hotel in Smithfield. Bewleys in Ballsbridge a lot more affordable and only 5 mins from the city centre

Let's face it, Dublin is pretty horrible. You're about as likely to find an authentic Irish experience in Dublin as you are to find a 15 year old Liverpudlian virgin. And the money you've saved on the flight? You'll hand three times as much over in the vastly expensive over-inflated ale prices.
As Soi said, avoid Temple Bar, the Irish do. And next time, try Limerick. you'll get a flight to Shannon for exactly the same money but Limerick is bloody brilliant. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you fancy a decent meal, head to Shack restaurant in the Temple bar area. Its not cheap but is very good. Also head to the Brazen Head pub, its Dublins oldest boozer and does cracking fish and chips. All the pubs around the Temple bar area are pretty good, as someone mentions it is not cheap, was about 7 euros for a guinness when I was there last, but it is always good fun.

Had a great weekend there a few years back, went to the Guinness brewery oh, heaven Went to a pub i think was called "the Knights bridge" and had a great night, you can book a meal there for the evening which is downstairs they had bands on and absolutley packed out. As others have said Temple bar area is the main place but good atmoshere everywhere
