Really interesting insights from Carragher and Souness. Like Klopp Lambert has obviously brought this pressing game from Germany.
Like us yesterday Liverpool ran out of steam late on.
As Carragher said ‘No one can keep Pressing for 90 minutes. You need to get 2 or 3 goals up’
If they can’t do it we won’t be able to .
It’s a big big problem

Which is why you have to use subs sensibly, we didn’t yesterday and paid the price.

Notice Tottenham went possession during their press and then had the ball comfortably after 70 mins? Klopp wasn't sensible using his bench either this weekend and paid the price letting the refs pull it.

If pressing like that was lamberts big plan then it isn't going to work away from home.
Maybe some home games it will work.
I would have preferred the swansea approach in the away games. Anyway, he's already blown it after those watford and Bournemouth results. Disastrous

Lambert wants to press but we don't have the players / fitness to do it past 30 minutes so after 2 games reverts to ...errr..lumping it to crouch !

No club has players fit enough or strong enough to press a good team for 90 minutes, so it's a useless tactic except only for part of the game!

We did it well in the first half and got ahead. Then in the second half we should have sat in, kept it tight and brought on fresh legs to try to hit them on the counter as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser and then winner.

The difference in work rate from Hughes's time to the current approach is akin to going from doing fun runs to marathons.
Ever likely they look fucked.

To be fair, neither Bournemouth goal came as a result of our 'pressing' tactic. A huge slice of luck for the first, then giving away a silly foul followed by shit defending from a set-piece for the second...

Agreed, but a different approach adopted by us may have had us mentally "digging in" more in defence and also could have earned another goal on the break which could have killed them off.

Liverpool are an extremely fit side. The only reason they can't see out games is that it's Klopps philosophy. He believes outscoring teams.
Lambert tried it on Saturday and our fitness levels just aren't good enough. Nor do we have the calibre of players required.

It is a tactic we should use in short spells when the other team is getting on top and we need to get more of a foothold. It should be organised by communication between the manager and joe allen as the real leader of the team. This is the tactic used by other teams who press. When Joe goes the others follow.
It is good to do it for the first ten minutes or so like we did on Saturday.
But Lambert did not manage the game on Saturday by all accounts. By the 60th minute onwards it descended in to another shambles.
Game management in that situation required using all our subs early as soon as it looked like we were knackered, basically early second half. Each sub eating up time and breaking up play and momentum, and putting two sets of fresh legs in midfield and diouf up front to chase long balls, then switch to sitting in and only pressing in our own third of the pitch, playing direct balls.
It worries me how wrong lambert got it.
Nevertheless, I think he will persevere in away games, I think he wants to throw the dice in the hope we will win at least one away game before the end of the season. Maybe take a point in another. Then get the remaining ten points we need from the 6 home games.
None of this is going to work in my view, when you blow big opportunities like we have on Saturday, and at Brighton and Palace and Huddersfield, then you are going down

Long story, but we are slow moving up the pitch
So a high press is particularly good for us. We are more likely to score if we can turnover possession high up the pitch
We Just have to sign about half a dozen new players, totally change the players fitness training, and lower the average of the squad :-)

Klopp has used more players than any other manager so far this season, 93 or so changes. Backs up you're point about using all the subs. And emphasises the importance of rotation, a squad that can do it. Klopp still doesn't get it all spot on. Still interesting if he can sustain it effectively until the end. Still think it's too soon to predict definite doom. It's a massive battle on our hands no doubt about that.
