Below is a self-explanatory email I have sent to Man Utd and Stoke city. My main purpose in posting it is to inform fellow Stokies about the restrictions at Old Trafford, since no-one else seems to be doing so !
Good afternoon
I write in advance of next Monday's game in connection with the the rules operated by Man Utd in respect of what is and what isn't allowed to be taken into the ground.
On the match tickets it states in very small print that purchase of the tickets is subject to the ground regulations and states that these can be viewed at manutd.com/termsandconditions , which indeed they can
Those regulations list things which are prohibited but make no reference to the prohibition of bags or flasks. I had a problem with prohibition of my flask two seasons ago, and had correspondence with Man Utd afterwards about the fact that no notification of this appeared in the ground regulations and Stoke fans who had purchased tickets were not informed of this in advance.
Two seasons on, nothing has changed in this respect. Because I had become aware through the FSF that the practice at Old Trafford has become more severe in this regard, I searched the Man Utd website and found an FAQ section which does give a maximum size of 8" x 6" x "2 for permitted bags, which is quite small ( the relatively small bag which I take to games is bigger than this) and does indicate that flasks are not permitted.
However, very few Stoke fans will locate this information in advance. Those who do seek information by looking on their match ticket will find the link which gives incorrect information which is well out of date and hasn't been updated since my problem two seasons ago. As far as I can see, Stoke City have not provided any information about this on the club website, and have not included any information on this with the match tickets.
This is a very unsatisfactory situation, and unless advance publicity is given to Stoke fans about the uniquely severe restrictions at Old Trafford ( no other ground that I am aware of operates so severe a policy) I can forsee problems and arguments at the searching point.
I should also add that I cannot find on the Man Utd website any contact information for either the Supporters Liaison Officer or how to make a complaint.
Malcolm Clarke FSF Chair and Supporter representative on the FA Council

So what will happen with my lad when we get to the stadium next Monday ?
He goes to Uni in Sheffield but is back home this weekend, he's coming on the official coaches with me but is getting a train back to Sheffield from Manchester after the game, he'll have his weekend bag with him which certainly won't be that small.

I think the gift's advice is probably the simplest way of solving it. Man Utd do have a place for leaving bags which I had to use when I they stopped me taking the flask in, but it's quite a way on the other side of the ground from the away turnstiles and I had to join a queue of obviously foreign tourists who were leaving rucksacks etc. Glad I posted, otherwise your son would have been stopped at the search line, which would have been a pain !

I have heard back from Anthony Emmerson that our club plan to include this is in a piece on information for travelling supporters so hopefully the message will get out there - particularly about the bags since I think many fans could be caught by that

You would expect this type of thing from a conference team.

Sorry Malcolm, whenever you post on the topic of flasks I still chuckle at the time you and I were chatting at Craven Cottage and you inadvertently tipped the piping hot contents of your flask on to the shaven head of a thick set Stoke supporter on the seat in front of you, it was a tense moment as he swung round and I have to say had he not taken it in (reasonable) good humour I was happy to point you out as the culprit

Now too travel on planes I have to produce a letter from the hospital because the liquids are over the permitted take on these have to be brand new I then have to open them and drink from the bottle to prove it’s safe 🤦🏻♂️ Are we potentially moving towards something like this at big arenas if they dictate a non standard policy? I know it’s not completely the same but subjects like this get me wondering especially while still waiting for a new manager announcement

The FSF caseworker has occasionally had to support fans who have had issues like this. I think that when you take him to his first away game it might be prudent to notify the home club in advance if they operate a strict policy. I'd be very happy to offer FSF advice/assistance when the time comes. From what you have said, I assume you haven't had any problems at Stoke ?

Restrictions on bags?
Seems harsh that they’re punishing people for going with their missus.

No never had an issue when I’ve brought him always explained and been let in, but he hasn’t been since the security was upped due to the fact his brother gave up his season ticket and I pretty much refuse to go sit somewhere else with him😉 he’s thirteen it’s not like he likes me anyway😂. But I have wondered because he carries it in a small rucksack so it doesn’t stand out as something different and now by man United standards it’s not acceptable 🤷♂️

From the information now published on the Stoke club website, it seems they now have an additional "bag drop" which is not too far from the away turnstiles, so that's an alternative option to leaving it on the coach. I suppose it partly depends on how far away the coaches are parked ? ( as I live only about 3 miles away, I never use the coaches for OT).

Our own government are more of a threat to the people of this country than a terrorist threat.Ask your local GP.We now have patients dying in the corridors of hospitals.
