I think yesterday’s attendance proves that a lot of fans are staying away because of the quality of football on show, and must be sick of Hughes’s tactics, team selections and formations, or is there another reason for not attending, i know there were a lot of empty Swansea seats, but Stoke fans stayed away in their hundreds

I think the 800+ empty seats in the Swansea end had more to do with it.

Negativity for no reason here.
Swansea didn't bother to travel and a few people are probably saving up for xmas.
Nothing to see here.

Official attendance 28,261 according to BBC. That’s about 1800 short of capacity. There seemed to be many empty seats on MOTD last night though. I suppose that ST holders are included in attendance figures whether they attend or not.

There are plenty of reasons people don’t turn up. They buy their st’s but also have a life. I miss for holidays but always offer my ticket out for free. My old fella missed Wed night he’s 76 and has chest problems it was too cold and would have made him ill. Most of the empty seats are bought and paid for so for whatever reason they don’t go they’ve still shown commitment to the club. Just fuck off superfans.

Makes it worse when tickets are only a 5r and it looked about 24 thousand I'd say. Definitely the type of football doesn't inspire people to go

I think the 800+ empty seats in the Swansea end had more to do with it. And they'd only taken the small allocation anyway which freed up about 1000 extra tickets in the home end which therefore exagerated the open spaces there. It's not rocket science but lets leap on this as another stick to beat the manager/club with. Not saying that there isn't an awful lot wrong at the moment but the attendance figure yesterday was almost entirely down to Swansea's 'couldn't be arsedness' rather than ours.

I'm the same age and have a few problems that can knock me about a bit, but I didn't have a chest infection so I went to the game. I wore 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of long-johns, a t-shirt, 2 pullovers, two coats and 2 scarves and me flat cap... and me overcoat has a fleecy hood, and I was still frozzen when I got home. And even though we lost, I wouldn't have missed it for any reason other than an infection would have put me at risk. Give your old man my best and tell him to get better soon. I thought the Stoke fans' attendance was okay yesterday considering that it's coming up to Xmas and we were playing Swansea and not Man City. Some fans who are not ST holders can't afford both nogger and saving up for Xmas. Their kids come first, which is how it should be. OS.

We've probably done the whole Family Stand thing to death, but it's just so visible to the TV cameras. When Jack tipped over the bar Ryan's late attempt to give away 2 precious points there can't have been more than 20 people still sat in the Family stand in total, all you could see was acres of sad looking empty red plastic seats

I know it's been done to death but who wants to sit with their kids for over an hour in their car after the game when they can leave early and get straight off. My brother in law got off the Nuffield Gym car park at just after 11 on Wednesday. I was home in Burton at 10.40 because I catch a bus. It's scandalous really.

It didn't used to be half empty at the start of games and almost completely empty before the end of them up until the last 2 or 3 seasons did it, has something changed? As for why I might care I suppose it's just that I am proud of my club and our fans and it just looks really poor and friends are asking me what has happened to what they at least believed to be our once passionate and loyal support.

Our support is still loyal we come very close to filling a ground even with a whole new corner that was not available to season ticket allocation. Not as passionate, well its no longer a novelty and we are playing poor unadventurous football a couple of seasons after a period where we proved that that isn't the only way. Can you see a bit of a picture emerging rather than expecting people to turn up and be really excited by something thats been pretty much consistently dross for 2 years maybe we should thank our lucky stars they're still turning up at all and wondering what can be done to convince them to continue to do so. We just don't have over 25,000 ultras for fans I'm afraid that's reality you need to get used to it.

First of all he parked there because he's a member of the gym and went in before the game. He's never parked there before, he normally parks in Fenton and walks. Is that far enough away for you? I was just using it as an example to highlight how some parents might take their kids out of the family stand early and therefore make it look empty towards the end of games. I quite clearly said it wasn't the only reason but yes it clearly is, in my opinion, a quite valid excuse.

We have a limited fan base (due to the fact it’s a small city, the presence of the Vale, and the clubs historical lack of success) most of whom have very limited resources. I’m still impressed by the numbers who do show up and the work the club does to get them in. All things considered it was a good turn out yesterday. We struggled to get the numbers in the 70’s when we had a really good team to watch.
(I think the infrastructure is important too - certainly detracts massively from my match day experience.)

Considering Stoke's history, the local population, and the logistical problems I think the attendance holds up quite well.
The club suffer from the major handicap that a lot of the local population believe "Stoke will never win anything".
A game against Swansea, this time of year, and the current team form is hardly going break any attendance records.

I suppose that ST holders are included in attendance figures whether they attend or not. Only just above 28k? Unbelievable, pathetic attendance if you think that the history of the club started when we were promoted to the premiership.
