The BBC has said that Froomey's in intensive care in St. Etienne and hislist of injuries is getting longer. Fractured femur, fractured elbow, several fractured ribs, and it's just been revealed he's also got a broken hip.
It'll take him a long time to recover from that lot, and even if he does will he be able, at his age, to return to his position at the top level of the sport ?
Career over maybe ?

Two years ago I was going about 30mph downhill on a country lane when a big artic Lorry pulled out of a farm with out looking. I crashed straight into the fuel tank bounced off with my bike. Luckily I walked away pretty much shaken but no breaks
Sometimes you are just lucky

To be honest mate I’ve suffered both a broken hip and a fractured elbow (done in separate accidents) and I’ve struggled like hell to do a lot of activities to the same degree as I’ve lost rotation in both. He’ll no doubt get some of the worlds best medical care so fingers crossed for him.

I had a badly broken tibia and a mangled knee after being hit by a car, it stopped my cycling and other activities. Hopefully Froomey can recover but there are a lot of younger riders making their mark now so I think it would be very hard for him to return to his previous dominance.

Coming back to the top of the sport after these injuries and his age would be truly astonishing. I just can't see it happening no matter how mentally tough he is.

Seems to be the suggestion on twitter that Cobo has been DQ'd from the 2011 Vuelta meaning Froome would have racked up a 7th GT title.

I heard he was on a scouting mission for a new apartment, just like James Bond had.
A Froome with a view.

Seems to be the suggestion on twitter that Cobo has been DQ'd from the 2011 Vuelta meaning Froome would have racked up a 7th GT title. They were discussing it today on Eurosport's commentary of the Criterium du Dauphine. They said it's looking very likely Froomey (who's now conscious after his operation) will be awarded the 2011 Vuelta. The latest news from Cycling weekly confirms this. linkThere's also a link about half way down the article where the French surgeon who operated on Froomey reckons he could be racing again in six months ! I think that's being VERY optimistic but fingers crossed he's right. linkGoooaaarrrnnn Froomey !

Yes you're right, there was also Alejandro Valverde who broke his knee cap and the "experts" thought that could have been career ending. He not only returned to race, but won lots of races in 2018, and then won the World Championship road race in Austria in September last year. I think Froomey will be very determined and driven to come back so that he can have a crack at winning his 5th TDF.

Chris Froome has posted that he know's how lucky he is after his crash. He also broke a couple of vertebrae in his lower neck and he also lost almost four pints of blood during surgery. link

I can vouch for the ribs thing, two of mine were broken during 20 minutes of cpr at the end of April, it's taken 6 weeks get back to normal. The two new hips took a bit longer. Different set of circumstances of course but bones mending is pretty much the same for most folks I guess. Could be wrong.

Any follow up visits to the specialists due ? Not too bad actually thanks, a combination of 70% rest and the remaining bit just moving around seems to have worked. All that's left is a trip to the cardiologist in Leek at the end of the month, it's a 2hr appt according to the letter. The heart is still beating which is a plus. Interview for a new job coming up soon so 🤞 for that, watch this space.

What next for Team Ineos ?
Geraint Thomas is out of the Tour de Suisse after a heavy crash yesterday. Taken to hospital but latest reports say he's not badly injured and "should be able" to take part in the TDF.

At least he'll be alright for the Tour.

So the Tour de France is over for another year.....next up is La Vuelta. Just found the route and stage info for anyone interested. It should be really good with 8 (I think) mountain finishes. linkI haven't seen any post TdF info about teams and riders as yet.

Movistar are putting in a strong team with valverde quintana and carparaz How that works with Quintana leaving is anyone’s guess. I like the vuelta even if it seems below the giro and France as a grand tour.

Was impressive but most of the tour guys climbed off and given a 20 year old finished 2nd leads me to think a few weren't taking it serious. That said there is some phenomenal young talent about, it'll be interesting to see Tom Pidcock step up in the next 2 years he's another in the mould of multi disciplined MvdP and WVA.

Yes there is quite a rich vein of young talent waiting in the wings along with the current crop that you mentioned, not forgetting Egan Bernal. Evenepoel does seem to have the cycling media in raptures following his junior road race and time trial wins at the 2018 World Championships, and today's win has just stepped it up another level. At least he's not French
