A very revealing chart ( Change in child income poverty rates) - noticing who is top of the list and bottom of the list and the time period. It is also a fact that during the last EU budgetary period 2014 to 2020, Poland received net €72.5 bn from the EU, whilst the UK net financial contribution was €70.2 bn. Aren't you glad we have left and can start spending money on our own poor people when we get the right government? It is. Presumably the measure of children in relative income poverty takes into account the wealth of the country as a whole, it being a relative measure? In which case the UK's value of 20.7% compared to Poland's 14% is a reflection of that, what with the UK having the world's sixth largest economy by GDP, compared to Poland being 21st? Given that one of the fundamental principles of the EU is to redistribute wealth from richer nations to poorer ones (levelling up if you will!), it's not surprising that an economy worth $3.7 trillion should contribute more than one worth $0.8 trillion.

Disgraceful and shameful but not surprising It’s a ludicrous concept even in its least extreme. Why should Blair, for example, get over £100k a year for just10 years of work as a PM? Their pension should be equivalent to how much they themselves put in and what their employee match is + the returns on investment.

Aren't you glad we have left and can start spending money on our own poor people when we get the right government? They've had 13 years (with time both inb and out of the EU). After 13 years, child poverty in the UK is worse than ever. We may have left the EU but it is "they" that control the spending and "they" are not about to start spending money on our own poor people whose poverty they created or exacerbated in the first place. There is no guarantee that the next government will be what you call the "right" government. It is shameful that a nation as wealth as the UK has such a poor standing in terms of child poverty. It is also shameful that you attempt to make it all about Brexit.

At least for Blairs decade long tenure it is only 100k a year (shouldn't be this much). In the last 5 years we are paying 100k for May, 100k for Boris, 100k for Liz, 100k for Sunak and I wouldn't be surprised to see them get another one of their mates for a 100k per year pay day before the next election. It should be equated to length of service at least. In which case Liz is maybe entitled to £500 a year.

It is also shameful that you attempt to make it all about Brexit. It's difficult to measure uk child poverty since David Cameron waved his magic wand to make it disappear. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jul/02/david-cameron-abolishes-poverty-poorMr Coke is an intelligent man. You don't write posts as detailed and as lengthy as his without being intelligent. I'm pretty sure he probably knows stuff like the above and is trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Why? I don't know. Child poverty isn't something to be proud of. And a government which manipulates the data and definition to hide the problem should be held in the greatest disdain. Why Mr Coke is dancing to their tune I do not know. But its absolutely disgusting what this government has done. And week after week Sunak will stand up in PMQs and say to this country that child poverty has reduced under this government. Anyone who knowingly knows what they've done to hide the child poverty crisis and comes out chanting the same lies is just as complicit.

www.bbc.com/news/uk-67714132This should be a treason charge. Selling your position of power in the best interest of your own bank balance is disgraceful. Of course, then they’d have to rethink lobbying and campaign donations, and why would any of them ever want to do that?

Mr Gullis was funnily enough reading of a script just last week asking questions for a betting company. Wonder where his next job will be?

Scott Benton is a naughty Tory. 35 day suspension...he was highly vocal in his support of Boris during his parliamentary hearing I recall.
"In our view ... it was an extremely serious breach," Parliament's Committee on Standards said, agreeing with the commissioner's findings.
"The message he gave to his interlocutors ... was that he was corrupt and 'for sale', and that so were many other Members of the House. He communicated a toxic message about standards in parliament."
The Times published a video in which Benton told its undercover reporters, who were posing as gambling industry investors looking for a paid adviser, that he could leak them a copy of an upcoming market-sensitive government policy paper on gambling reforms.
Benton also offered to submit parliamentary questions and talked of his access to ministers. The journalists had proposed paying him thousands of pounds a month, the Times said.
In his evidence to the committee, Benton described the meeting as "a lapse in judgment" and said he deeply regretted his comments but that he did not consider his actions to be a breach of the rules.
The committee said Benton, who has been a member of parliament since 2019, withheld evidence from the investigation. It also said he was motivated by personal gain and his comments had suggested this was a repeat offence.

Unfortunately as long as we play the game, Labour or Conservative for the next election, very little will actually change,.....no matter how strong the feelings on the Oatcake. It is as simple as that. The old politics has had its day.

We have a corrupt, incompetent government led by a group of people who are only interested in themselves, because 35%of the population voted for them.
These people do not hide their corruption, incompetence or rampant self interest, they actually highlight it, and yet many still think they are worthy another chance.
When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

I'd bump up MPs pay to £100k a year in an attempt to attract better candidates and in exchange, ban all paid outside interests (jobs or otherwise).

By all means they should talk to people. MPs need to know what businesses are thinking, worried about, needing etc. But it should be recorded, minuted, publicly available.

Candidates should also have lived in their constituency as their primary residence for an allotted period of time before being able to stand too in my opinion. Too many mps shoehorned into safe seats for constituency where they have no connection and probably little concern for local issues.

It’s frustrating that such basic concepts won’t see the light of day anytime soon. It’s also quite indicative of the lack of community spirit when people will happily vote for an outsider to represent them over someone from the local area.

Until we reform the electoral system we won't get the right MPs to regulate.....and perhaps the " right" people would need less regulation. And be careful who does the regulating and how.
