Covid obviously was and is a factor. But are you telling me Tory economic policy has worked? Are the poor being taken out of poverty? No, the opposite is happening. I’ve said nothing of the sort. I’m saying the opposition has backed most of what the Tories have been doing Not with austerity. Not with an EU referendum. Not with the disastrous approach to brexit. Not with Liz Truss’ disastrous budget. Not with covid fraud. All of those policies were not supported by the opposition.

"This law ensures that most holiday is paid in line with workers' normal earnings, including regular overtime and bonuses. However, if certain changes are made, companies would only have to cover basic pay."
My partner used to work in a supermarket were they would only give you an 8 hour contract but you regularly did 30 hour weeks.
Holiday pay used to be calculated by the hours you worked over the 12 weeks preceeding your holiday. So if you worked 30 hours every week and then took a weeks holiday you'd get 30 hours pay.
I'm guessing this change would mean that if she took that holiday despite always doing 30 hour weeks she'd only get 8 hours pay.
Does that mean if you oppose this change or strike against it you'd be called an extremist too and potentially get locked up?
Disgraceful.
Welcome to the dictatorship lads.

For each on you scroll through, there is a deep red/blue divide. In 2019-2020, this also included a number of Covid bills: votes.parliament.uk/votes/commons/division/895votes.parliament.uk/votes/commons/division/878The idea that Labour and Conservative would deliver similar life quality over the long term can be questioned by the link I sent previously, where childhood poverty got gradually better under Labour and consistently worse under Tories.

Most people can see and appreciate that they are very much not "all the same". If you are inclined politically to the current ruling party, or thereabouts, your frustration at the damage that has been done to the country by it, on so many levels, is alleviated by convincing yourself that the opposition are "just the same", "no different", "would be worse" etc. Any A-level psychology student could see through that approach. It manifests itself routinely on these pages.

Wonder what will happen to this pair? Probably a million pound fine to set an example.
At least they've made a few hundred million to offset it.
We need to focus on the real criminals instead such as mothers stealing baby milk from tesco.

Alot of what I've seen from Starmer and his front bench (Angela aside) suggests they're very similar.

That said, his Labour Party have still opposed the vast majority of Conservative bills designed to shred public services. He does certainly seem to be a politician who places little emphasis on reform though.

I’ve not seen anybody suggest the tories have been good for the country. Starmer hasn’t displayed anything that suggests he’s going to change a thing, maybe the old adage “you say it best when you say nothing at all” applies. We’ll find out before too long what he’s really about I guess.

It shouldn't occur at all nevermind routinely. I just hope we have a proper left wing opposition formed in the next few years so that left wing voters can be represented by a leader with left wing values. A leader which suspends members for supporting workers striking or opposing genocide is not a left wing leader.

But in first past the post to win he just needs to be left of the Tories. We need electoral reform then the labour party could split in two (as it should really) and everyone can vote for who they want, rather than now where we have to vote against who we don’t want.

Apart from I think he wants to reform the Lords which would be a massive change.

This will help loads with our low police and nurse numbers. Choose a career in STEM fields with remote work, travel, good money and respect. Or come work in public services where pay rises are non existint, striking makes no difference and the general public will record your every move and treat you like shit. Will starmer reverse it if he gets in power? Doubtful

The new pension deals in the public sector are better than a normal money purchase pension, but no where near as good as they used to be. The pensions have already been watered down massively.

He can’t support striking unless his position is totally aligned with those striking and some asked for 30% pay rises! His actual position on strikes was the important thing. And that was to sit down and do a deal. Which is the sensible and correct position. It means people get better conditions and disruption is minimised. If/when he is PM, he cannot simply support strikes regardless.

Public sector offers better job security, better employment conditions and significantly better pensions on the whole. But as a result the annual salary is lessened. Private sector and you might command a better salary but the job is never safe, your pension options are poor and require investment of your own. I'm self employed so I have to work my own shit out bit my missus is a CS and has a crazy pension can retire at 55 if she's prepared to take a hit on her pension and would have to murder someone to get sacked. To be fair to her she works extremely hard and has achieved a lot so I don't give her too much grief. Edit replied to the wrong post. Apologies 🤣

We are overdue a new leader to be fair. It's been 12 months. Someone else needs to get their lifetime pension and elect their mates for a cosy life in the Lords. Step aside for the next narcissist Sunak.

I’m not sure if I’m reading the King’s body language correctly, but as he’s reading the King’s Speech I’m getting the impression he’s thinking “what a load of rubbish” during a lot of it.
