And the conference is being held in a former railway station.......... It's all very well for Rishi 'Helicopter' Sunak to cancel HS2 to Manchester, but what is the alternative strategy for transport north of Birmingham? The M6 north of Birmingham is a nightmare. No more smart motorways and the West Coast Mainline is at near-capacity. Extend the toll road to extend the empty lanes of the current one?

They are actually from the young communist league. Not sure what the masks are about, can make it look a bit militant. But the red is due to it being the communist colour. The YCL organised the Mass trespass of Kinder Scout in the 1930s after wealthy landowners were blocking access. And that paved the way for the rambling rights which exist today. Members were also involved in the Spanish civil war against fascism, the Vietnam war, resisting Apartheid in South Africa and the battle of cable street against the British Union of fascists which resulted in the introduction of the public order act 1936. In the 80s their chairman created "Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners". This formed an amazing bond and relationship between the LGBT community and the miners in opposition to Thatchers Conservative party who were opposing workers and closing down mines. The film Pride is a very good watch and adaptation of it. 50 years on and under a new conservative government the Young Communist League have once again actively been supporting record levels of workers strikes across the country. Whether people think they're workers or not is up to them. But I don't see Labour or Conservatives out on the picket lines. The minors in the 80s certainly appreciated their support. Whether you agree with communism or not. One thing which can't be disputed is the communist party of GB regularly being on the side of the working man.

To still be a commie in 2023 you've got to be a special kind of stupid π Them in the photo aren't commies neither, they're playing dress up, proper commies like the old soviet lot would eat them for their snapping.

Very much a fair point indeed mate especially as that's the Young Communist League too which I presume is younger members. I'm not really trying to challenge Dave in saying that either. More just pointing out a bit more info on who they are and their background. I don't think it's fair though to assume anyone marching for workers suddenly isn't a worker. I don't see anyone else out marching for the workers. And while I fully understand why people may not agree with communist ideology. They're certainly not marching for vested interests, it's very much in line with the principles and what they stand for. I'm not very educated on the differences between socialism, Marxism, communism etc.. so not going to try and make out like I do. But when I was in Berlin a few years ago I took in some Karl Marx and east germany museums and it opened my eyes up a bit to some of the positives with Marxism and communism. I think what we get told in the west about it is slightly bias because in my opinion capitalism benefits the elites more than communism ever would.

They aren't marching mate they're scurrying along π The reason they are doing that and no one else is is because most working class people are ......at work π They subscribe to a marxist-leninist ideal which is basically tyranny of the highest order, they're even more extreme in their outlook than normal commies. It's people like that that give the left a bad name. When people use the derogatory term 'lefty' what they really mean is commie/marxist/tankie. Their views on capitalism and the economy are just childish but some people that don't know any better might be willing to give that a try. Where they lose most people is their views on society and how society should be. How can anyone respect or fear (in a war) an organisation that doesn't even know what a woman is. It's that cultural Marxism that has creeped its way into mainstream politics and MSM, and its part of the reason why society is so divided today. On one side we have people like them who might as well be satanists, on the other side we have ordinary people that don't want it, then on the other side is most people who don't know or care either way.

The thing with the whole left/right thing. We all have people across the political spectrum we would see as friends so I try not to judge people based on it. And tbh most people don't even know where they sit nevermind me knowing. The one thing that the far left and far right have most in common is that they're probably the most dissatisfied with how things are at the minute. For me I just don't see the point in capitalism. It feels like a massive game of monopoly where your parents position heavily influences your starting point. And we're just now going round in circles and at that stage in the game where 1 or 2 players own most of the assets and its just a bit shit. Don't get me wrong it's pretty fun at the start monopoly when you've got the American dream. But when you're spawning into the game late and it feels like you're just playing to inevitably go bank rupt, it's a bit shit. Like capitalism does allow for some stupid shit mate. In a communist society you'd have maybe 5 different types of dildo designed by the best dildo techs in the world and these would be mass produced by robots. Whereas in a capitalist society you'd have 50k different dildos being produced by 1k different dildo companies and some of them are probably really shitty ones from wish. Probably 100s of thousands of people working in the dildo sector. Imagine looking back on your life on this amazing earth and you spent 40 hours a week for 20 years working on dildos? That wouldn't happen in a socialist world because you'd just make what you need and instead of 40 hours a week working on dildos to make your boss rich. You'd instead work 15 hours a week on dildos and spend the rest of the time doing meaningful shit. And because everyone suddenly has more time as they're not all working in pointless jobs for pointless companies competing to make a handful of people at the top of each company rich. Suddenly because people have time, communities begin to be built up again as everyone is no longer burned out and depressed. Instead they have time to spend with friends, family and working within their communities. Social clubs come back. Community hubs. Etc... So yeh not sure what the answer is. But late stage capitalism feels a bit meh right now. Wish the government could send us all to Cuba on a research trip or something. Like a wee taster session before we decide if we want to give it a go.
