As i have said before this can happen in 2030 40 50 i still will NOT be able to afford an electric car and heat pumps for my house, it will end up that the rich will fly have holidays cars etc. The rest of us us will keep the mills running like back in the day, the elite are using this climate lark as an excuse to put us back in our place like good little sheep.

Tories will abolish inheritance tax if they win the next election. A great way to preserve the rich staying rich and to stop the redistribution of wealth.
Inheritance tax only comes in when your estate (excluding your primary home) is worth more than £325k (or £650k of combined assets if you are married). The very richest avoid it due to loopholes. It impacts the next level of wealth the most.
It raises £7.2bn a year (not far off the entire foreign office budget for the year. It would raise a lot more if loopholes were closed for the wealthy.
Another major difference between Tory and Labour.
Edit: actually I am not entirely accurate above. Your primary residence isn’t automatically excluded. Effectively you can leave £500k tax free as an individual, but if you were married the longest surviving spouse can leave £1m of assets tax free and the first deceased’s spouse’s estate is tax free.

Make sure you don’t vote tory then. They are going to abolish inheritance tax. The electric car and heat pump plan only works with massive government investment for the vast majority of us. Or they will fudge it by changing the law so that no new houses or cars can have the fossil fuel versions from the deadline date. Really they should be doing that from now to phase them out if they were serious about meeting the target. But obviously the Tories aren’t because they won’t be in power, so instead of thinking about long term interests of the country, they are just trying to make it as hard as possible for the next government so the tories have a better chance of winning the election that follows.

Surely this policy will never be forgiven by the vast majority of us. In a cost of living crisis that the tories have massively exacerbated (and made money from), not taxing high value estates on death is inexcusable for 99% of the population. You would have to be such selfish and rich scum to vote tory at the next election.

The definition of true blue Conservative patriotism: if you think you're going to lose the next election, make sure you do as much as you can to make it as hard as possible for the new government to make things better. Fuck the country, that doesn't matter.
Tax cuts for the wealthy; tear up environmental protections; scrap home insulation help; kick the climate change can down the road, etc etc.
People inclined towards the Conservatives really need to shake off the blinkers from their eyes - they're really not the patriots you mistakenly believe them to be. They don't give a shit about you or the country as a whole, no matter how much they pretend to, no matter how much they align themselves with royalty and nobility in the hope that some of that natural deference will rub off.
They care about power, money for themselves and their mates and that's it. The rest is just a collection of posturing, distraction and soundbites to reel in the gullible.
And they're definitely not "all the same" before anyone says it...!

London May as well become its own country at this rate, the only place getting real terms investment. If it was the other way around and HS2 was started in Manchester, not a chance would they cancel the leg down to London…

The Manchester leg was always going to be cancelled. They don't give a single shyte about Northern England.

True, obviously the reason it was started in the London end then. the north south divide is greater than ever. I sometimes spend the odd day in the capital for work, place is like a constant building site with all the projects going on. It’s obvious that government care little about anything outside the M25

He'll be in the states, it is obvious he hates the UK, so it'll be mutual feelings when he does finally fuck off. But ... hypothetically, if they were in the UK, then that's how much this particular family would save.

It’s obvious that government care little about anything outside the M25 They must be struggling to find people in the capital to do minimum wage jobs with how expensive living costs are. So guess this means they can now bring all the brummies in by train to do the jobs which are below wealthy Londoners.

I read somewhere recently that take London out of the UK ecenomy and the rest of us have a per capita wealth on a par with Mississippi - the US's poorest state.

True, because there’s almost no investment in other areas of the country to create wealth and grow. Everyone knows the UK is London centric and it’s not going to change. Government talk about levelling up but what they mean is the capital and nowhere else. The UK isn’t a wealthy country, we have a wealthy capital.

Interesting take from someone who claims to know what others are thinking all the time. Care to elaborate on your quote and who said that?
