Seriously, stop posting so much shite. Fucking hell Huddy wrote that without a shred of irony I bet ! If there is that much unintended comedy going on I'd be tempted to unblock him but not that tempted... Another irony klaxon alert. The gammonati are having a pile on. Water off a duck's back. Crack on....

i think huddy and red white are some sort of labour activists/ influencers but after the council elections i decided that this thread , as suggested in the title , is not one for discussions but purely one for slagging off Boris in particular and the tories in general . No alternatives are provided by the protaganists to policies announced by the tories just criticisms . I've said before that this tory government is the most like a proper labour government since maggie got into power and beat the unions to pulp. We've now got high inflation cos Rishi printed money for everybody to enable them to get through covid . The old labour party used to print money cos the unions wanted high wage rises cos inflation the Labour party had created was rampant. When the unions didn't get the rises they went on strike ..... sound familiar ? i heard at the weekend that the RMT were paying double the normal strike pay rates to encourage their menbers to opt for strike action despite the average income being £50000 per annum and the leader of the union on 140000 per annum. That poses question , Where has the money come from cos most unions were broke not long ago ? So many bone idle people want a free ride lets work from home cos its sunny , sod the consequences for normal workers , Tony Blair and SIR kier are alright jack ----- vote for me and get Macron and Scholtz . I think I could kind of see your point if your stance was I used to vote Tory but because this government are awful I won't now. If it's I didn't like the Labour of the 80's I'm going to continue voting Tory it's quite an odd stance. While the outcomes may have similarities I would argue that the reasons for it are quite different. There are similarities of waste but this government have done it through lining pockets of their friends or unbelievable clerical errors (in terms of the covid loans). This government has introduced large amounts of bureaucracy to portions of our trade and have placed huge restrictions on businesses being able to employ who they want. That aside can it really be said that this Labour government would inact all the policies of their predecessors of 40 years ago? The choice is to back a government we know is failing in very large ways or take a punt on a new one, I find it almost impossible to understand why people go for the first. It's one of the main reasons I keep coming here, I'm waiting for a reason why this government would be allowed to keep their jobs.

(For the record, if that comment from phileetin was aimed at me, I've never been a member of any political party and have voted for all of the main ones at various times in my voting life). I think anyone who isn't blinded by political tribalism can see that this current government is one of the worst in recent decades. Eden and Suez and Callaghan and the IMF spring to mind as comparably bad. To use a "Cokeism", I'm confident that the future will see this government recorded as a peculiar low point of administrations in the first half of the 21st century. It is ethically and morally bankrupt, it's led by a charlatan, a cheat, a law-breaker and a liar, with no political conviction and no moral compass who is woefully out of his depth. Even Gove said he wasn't up to the job. How right he was. The govt routinely breaks its manifesto pledges. It's policies are little more than red meat, dog whistle diversionary stuff about things that grab headlines but are trivial compared to things that really affect people's lives, about which the government does little of real substance for fear of offending big business. The usual response at this point is - ah but what about Starmer, he's boring isn't he. Yes, he is. But do you really want a clown and a circus running the country or someone with boring political competence? Give me the second any day. I don't give a shit how dull the government is, I just want it to work in a fair and open way to benefit as many people as possible, not just those who bung it the most backhanders.

It's a good point about the Cabinet, but does somewhat gloss over the reality of the parliamentary party as a whole. Ethnic diversity for Tory PP - 6% non-white; women 25% Ethnic diversity for Labour PP - 22% non-white; women 52% Perhaps there's an element of tokenism in the selections going on for Cabinet, rather than selection on ability. That might explain some of the current members' abilities?

What gives you the impression that starmer is competent Well, by contrast with the guy you voted for, or at least, seem to wish to keep in power by arguing against the opposition at every opportunity... He's not been sacked twice for lying He's not had to rely on a privileged background, contacts and favours to achieve what he has He's qualified as a lawyer, become a QC and then led the DPP And politically, so far at least, he's taken the Opposition from its unelectable state under Corbyn, removed the anti-semitism row that engulfed the party, and has been leading in the polls since December (much of the latter is down to the incompetence of the government, admittedly). So, yes, I suspect we'd get better governance under a Starmer led administration, although Lisa Nandy has impressed me recently, so I'd be perfectly prepared to see her lead the party into the next election too, if Starmer and Rayner get FPNs and resign.

Not all Tories are racists, although a large number are, including the PM. And yet still there are only two UK political leaders whose parties have been investigated for racism by an official body. Nick Griffin was one (hardly a surprise there!) and....oh, what's the other one again? I would name them but some people get a bit twitchy 😀 How's that islamaphobia enquiry getting on which the Tories promised during the last leadership debate ? www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-48688268.amp

I think is fair to say the Labour PLP didn’t reflect the population’s views on Brexit. They also don’t reflect the views of their own CLPs - which, of course was Corby and McDonnell’s beef. What do they reflect then?

What gives you the impression that starmer is competent Johnson has proven he isn't and shown himself to be really bad at the job. It's like rolling a one on a die and then saying I'll stick with that. The bar is so unbelievably low I guess that Stammer will be able to get above it. That would be my main argument. The fact he has held high office positions without being preselected from attending the right school or having been sacked from previous jobs for lying is also a decent start. Again the bar is the lowest it's ever been.

Agree that being more competent than Johnson isn’t exactly a challenge But I’ve seen nothing in starmer’s constant fence sitting His treatment of his predecessor And his handling of labours covid policy that would suggest competence It would probably be easier to say he’s less incompetent
