Any websites i can find any from the late 1800's early 19s? had a look on google but its hard work. Is it something specific you're after? I've got some prints at home of aerial views of Longton, particularly the area around Beswick. It's a while since I've studied them but would guess they're around the fifties from memory and show the bus station where the strand shopping centre car park is now?

This is Longton in 1895 - my god it was grim wasn't it ? Looking at old pics reminds me that the City I grew up in used to have a lot of soul. Not the sterile, faceless, nothingness that's replaced what was our heritage.

Near Sutherland Road around 1900 Amazing that after 117 years the area now looks worse than it did then.

With 20/20 hindsight we bulldozed a lot of heritage. I couldn't agree more! We then replaced that heritage with the biggest pile of crap ever seen. Not too long ago the council wanted to knock all the houses down around Northwood Park. MP Fisher got involved and remarked that any other council would be putting preservation orders on the houses, not trying to knock em down.

MP Fisher got involved and remarked that any other council would be putting preservation orders on the houses, not trying to knock em down. I know quoting myself isn't the "done thing", but ... That business in Northwood always was, and is, highly suspicious. The council claimed that the ground was unsafe, and the area needed to be cleared. Ground tests after this claim, proved that the ground was fine. This whole episode came at that time when the council had a bucket load of money coming from the EU. All they had to do was claim the money, with a project. That project was a hotel to be built alongside the park. How do I know that? I'm afraid that I will have to do a "Dave's Views" on that.

Here's one I found of Dresden showing an old alley around 1900 which I think ran from Belgrave Road up towards Cobden Street near to Longton Park.

It's not Longton but I couldn't resist this one. Apparently it's Molly Leigh's (?) cottage in Hamill Road !! It's better than one of today's current structures in that vicinity !!
