Near Sutherland Road around 1900 is that the railway bridge? It's not the railway bridge in the town centre. It looks more like the bridge on a side street (can't remember the name) just off Sutherland Road, just above the police station.

With 20/20 hindsight we bulldozed a lot of heritage.

Chaplin Road, again around 1890 ish. just looked at the modern version on google maps, very similar Except it's completely built up on the open land in the picture. I think the photographer would be standing in modern day Hales Place where he took the picture from.

Its hard to tell because theres a warehouse now where most of the people are standing. But the gradient of the road would suggest that,s the one

The website (http://thepotteries.org/buildings/th_longton1.htm) says its between commerce and market street I think this building was demolished many years ago guys - it was the original Longton Town Hall and was replaced by the 'new' Town Hall in Times Square. Stephens Solicitors used to be the Union Hotel (you can still make out the old 'red cross' Bass symbols in parts of the stonework by the main entrance), and I think the building in the photo stood next to it, between the hotel and the old Fire Station (now the kebab house and Lichfields Solicitors). There's a photo of it here in the process of being demolished in the 1970's, I'd guess for the road widening that was being done at the time: www.thepotteries.org/photo_wk/087.htm

But the gradient of the road would suggest that,s the one 100% right on Bridgewood Street. It was where Sampson Bridgewoods, latterly Churchill, Were, and a pub just through the bridge called The Sea Lion. That was our Friday treat when I was on Bridgewoods, across the road for lunch and a pint. Where that pic is taken from to the right is Aynsley Fine Bone China, another great name gone. Longton was probably the most industrialized of the 5 towns back in those days with some once great names manufacturing there.

If you look closely you can see Bridgewood & Sons on the gable end of the factory beyond and to the right of the bridge. Here is a link and some other great photos... www.thepotteries.org/potworks_wk/133.htm

This one's of Cobden Street in Dresden around 1890-1900 (exact date not known). I used to live in the other part of Cobden Street not long after I was married so I can identify with this picture quite well.
