Not all football players are greedy bastards. Rookie quarterback for the Houston Texans donated his first pay check ($27,000) to three caferia workers whose houses were damaged by the hurricane. As a child he experienced kindness at the hands of Habitat for Humanity who provided his family with their home.

I went see the Texans. They got hammered. Good stadium. Good stadium GREAT team Joe! Watson has had a great start to his rookie season, quick thinking, good footwork and not a bad arm on him! Considering the dross QB's we have had over the past couple of seasons DeShaun looks VERY promising

Did you come through the hurricane ok? Is that the same stadium as the Oilers used to play in? I used to support the Oilers when they started to show the NFL on tv many years ago, I think it was the head coach who left tickets on the gate for Elvis for every match which swayed my decision.

No, the Oilers played in the Astrodome which is on the same complex as the NRG Stadium

Isn't American Football just what Rugby will be once the health and safety brigade have finished with it?
It's joke for that gridiron game to share a name with the game we come on here to talk about...

I don't really mind what they call it but I'd be interested to know how they came up with the term FOOTball for it. The foot must be used less than any other part of the body when playing the game.

But seriously.. all credit to him

I'm honestly ignorant about that "sport" but do some of the players never actually get to touch the ball and just block? Still, thats more than Gianni Imbula does every week!

I asked our American tour guide this only today, he said 'What, you think it was ME that named it' which is a fair point and a better 'answer' than one of his fellow countrymen on the tour gave which was fuck all, miserable twat just blanked me

As a child he experienced kindness at the hands of Habitat for Humanity who provided his family with their home. I know you Americans have some fairly unusual names but Rookie Quarterback?? But seriously.. all credit to him "There are many stories as to how the word “rookie” came to describe newcomers. Although none of it is certain, these stories are interesting to know, and can provide a background of the origin of the word “rookie.” Others believe it has something to do with the “rook” in the game of chess. The rook is thought to be an important piece, but usually a late player in a game of chess. Thus, being late, he is then considered as a newcomer into the game. A more substantial theory concerns the Civil War and new recruits. It is believed that the word rookie was first used by the American military during the period of the Civil War. During this time, many untrained and inexperienced young soldiers were sent to battle, bringing about major problems concerning their discipline. Because of such, the veterans labeled the incompetent soldiers as “reckies,” which is a shortened word for “recruit.” With the passage of time, the word evolved and become the “rookies” that is presently being used."

Most players on the field are just knocking the crap out of each other trying to make room for running backs and receivers. Pretty simple really.
