Yes, was at that with my elder brother but we left early to get the bus back to the Leeds city centre and missed Smithy's goal. Was in the main stand paddock just near where Conroy put over that cross. Stoke fans were in the Scratchin' shed behind right hand goal and I remember Leeds lot walked round from the kop to get in there after half time. You could walk round to other ends at many grounds in them years, mainly to go behind the goal your team were attacking but as with Leeds that day, to have some aggro!

Just look at the passion on the face of John Mahoney at the beginning of the clip, that's what is missing today. Roots, can you send this clip to our current players and management team ?.

"You're gonna get your fucking heads kicked in " The standard chant in the 70s by a home crowd every time the opposition scored it seemed!

Yep, I was there, in that Cow Shed end.
Getting back to the station was a tad lively after the game, a case of "get them wagons in a circle them injuns are a-coming!"
Mind you it was no different than any other away game at that time, certainly not for the faint- hearted.

Thanks for posting those clips. My Stoke daft Kids love seeing football from the past, and cant believe the size of some of the uncovered terraces, and the hair styles!

It became a habit of mine years ago. I think it's good for the newer generations of support to see this stuff. Thanks.

I would have been there as a 7yr old with the old man for the match at Elland Road as we were living in Leeds at the time and always went when Stoke were in town.
Can't remember anything about the games but the violence outside the ground stays in the memory...

Confused,
It says on wikpaedia that stoke signed Shilton in November 74 for £325.000.
I went to stokes away match at Leeds following his signing and seem to remember stoke being beat by 3 goals , Leeds fans shouting "what a waste of money " and it Kicking off at half time with their fans in the Stoke end ie the Peacock pub end.
If video is 73/74 season then I am wrong re shilton losing in the leeds match and wikipaedia is wrong re date he was purchased.
I suppose its an age thing ?

I suppose its an age thing ? You're not wrong. This game was played in October 1973. Shilton signed twelve months later and we lost 3-1 at Elland Road in December 1974.

Just a couple of observations, notice quite a few of the home crowd (especially at SJP) applaud even when Stoke score. (If you watch Jimmy's sublime volley v Blues at St. Andrews you'll see lots of the home crowd applaud it).
John Farmer wasn't at his best when dealing with crosses.
A couple of mint away tops there.
That must be the only header Salmons ever scored.
And finally, Hudson, Salmons, Mahoney, Greenhoff, Smith, Pejic, Marsh, Dodd, TC, God I miss the old days!

My very first away top was the white top with diagonal lines, like the one the team wore in the Sheff Utd game. Loved that top.

Wasn’t that the first game Leeds didn’t win that season? I've lived my whole life believing that but I've just looked and The Shit drew with them before us. We did end their League unbeaten run! Any excuse!

I have to admit it now, as I was one of those kids running across the pitch from the old Stoke end to the paddock waving my scarf like a loonie. I can still feel the thrill of it. It was not the first or last time I did it. Us young kids at the front used to talk excitedly, longing for our team to score so that we could do our party piece. Happy days.
