So what was your point, you implied that it was acceptable in the 80s and 90s because it was shown on Only Fools and Horses which was a comedy show. It was never acceptable in them decades. You either get what im trying to say or not. Goodnight Sincere apologies for calling you a "fucking idiot". I cannot abide drunk drivers, idiot drivers, or distracted drivers. I detest them. I was all triggered, like a purple haired SJW caught on YouTube.

While I never hope the worst on anybody, it does have its connotation as an act of ill repute. While berring that in mind, it is also a matter of after the fact. He was caught driving drunk after drinking en route. Luckily he didn't injure or kill someone gravely, but also because of the same chance he deserves the punishment for not doing so. Either luck or just prudence he is human as we all are and deserves the same justice and discretion to the law. It is only fair. Besides, a mistake or lapse in judgement doesn't make the man's character or life. We all make grave mistakes. He should receive just punishment determined by his peers and not some wishy wash celebrity punishment. I hope he receives real community or workforce time. I believe in second chances and turning wrong, right but understand the wrong is square one.

I dont believe that this incident makes him the worlds worst person (though nobody really is doing so), but certainly don't agree that he should be given a chance or a slap on the wrists just coz he made a mistake. People do make mistakes, yes, but when he has chosen himself to drive after a long night out with many drinks, surely he knew for sure and without doubt that he was well over the limit. It was, at best, complete and utter fucking stupidity - and I don't care who it is that does it. This wasn't a case of having a pint and a half over two hours and just being over. But - thats also why there are varying degrees of punishments available depending on the extent. It's the belief that "it wont happen to me" and "I'm not going to get caught at this time".
It's also on the same basis that if somebody uses their phone and gets caught - then they should also be punished accordingly. Like it or not, that's the law in place in this country.
The latest stats I can find for contributory factors for the number of people killed in fatal accidents: Impaired by alcohol: 137 and for completion for the other things people are stating on this thread: Driver using mobile phone: 22 Distraction in vehicle: 66
Impairment by alcohol is the 9th highest contributory factor (out of 78). Those higher are: Exceeding speed limit: 244 Travelling too fast for conditions: 188 Poor turn or manoeuvre: 319 Driver/rider failed to look properly: 421 Driver/rider failed to judge other person's path or speed: 213 Loss of control: 495 Driver/rider careless, reckless or in a hurry: 316 Pedestrian failed to look properly: 159
All factors due to the road environment (10 categories) totaled 140; 71 of which being due to the waether. All factors due to vehicle defects (6 categories) totaled 38. All factors due to vision affected by external factors (10 categories) totaled 114.
The number of people killed due to drink driving has reduced substantially over the years - for the better, but people still do it. Many countries even have a zero policy. Many professions have zero tolerance and quite rightly so. Why people still think that it isn't that bad to drink drive just because it wasn't viewed so negatively years ago; or because people also use their mobile phones or change CD's or fanny around on their satnav is beyond me.
It's a clear choice - you can have a small amount to drink and still drive; but you certainly cannot be three times over the limit. The additional story too that he was off with a random gold-digging bird for whatever reason whilst his pregnant wife is away goes to show how much consideration he has for others - absolutely fuck all.
He deserves the maximum punishment available, as would anybody caught drink driving to that extent. No more, no less - just to be punished in accordance with the law.

I will be interested to see if 'class ' surfaces in the rooney story
When media savvy david beckham had an affair with rebecca loos he just laughed it off. And by 2013 had done so well enough to be nominated for the 2014 honours list. His nomination was acceped and he was all set to start 2014 as Sir david beckham until hmrc pointed out he was using a tax avoidance scheme called ' ingenious media ' to dodge paying tax. Hmrc ' red flagged ' his knighthood effectively blocking it at the 11th hour
Will be interested to see if rooney is nominated for a knighthood or portrayed as a ' northern chav'

Not excusing shreks behavior on Thursday night. Drink driving is wrong on every level. I ain't gonna sit and preach that I've never done it. In my youth like many others I've had my car keys burning a hole in my pocket whilst waiting for a lucky 7. But reading the blanket coverage in the papers am I alone in thinking he was stitched up a kipper by the innocent victim ( who just happens to be a wannabe wag, gold digger and celebrity) ???? She was unaware he was drunk!

Have they thrown the book at this cunt yet? Selfish Scouse prick. Someone of his age, especially someone with kids should know the impact it'd have on his or someone else's family should the worst happen.

Someone of his stature should know this. The guys a tool and deserves everything everybody is sending his way

Coleen should have kicked him out the first time he committed an indiscretion which she felt ashamed about, but after forgiving him so many times she must now realise it should be all over. Divorce him girl, and take half his money for yourself and find a decent (but better looking) fella to share it with! Want my phone number?

Heard a lot of shit on the radio saying it’s none of our business etc. It’s his private life
As soon as high profile companies sponsor you for £lots to be in the public eye representing said products in the media etc the same media have will report on stuff in the private lives that become public
Eg Rooney made money off Coca Cola who used the pair for their (at the time clean image) who then dropped him after granny shagging.
The same will happen now and maybe to Colleen via association.
They can’t have it both ways

Divorce is a terrible Experiance for all involved, including any children, whether you are a famous celebrity or not.
I was disgusted to see on the Derbyshire show this morning on the BBC, her interviewing a divorce lawyer and a journalist discussing The Rooney families difficulties, and ways of making financial settlements etc. Who says they are going to separate or divorce. ? Disgusting journalism.
The family have problems and should be left alone to resolve them in private.

Coleen could have married a million decent but ordinary blokes on pidgeon shit wages but she didn't. She married a multimillionaire footballer and the potential pay-off will be big in divorce. As compared to marrying a wayward but skint Joe Bloggs who could pay her very little. If anything.

Not taking moral high ground sides here.....just wanted to say what an idiot Rooney is ..suspected it all along especially after grangate (the incident with the ladies of ill repute) the likes of which are often found round Cobridge of an evening....allegedly...I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Colleen gets hold of him....snigger Isn't it funny how so many people do not want to take the "morally high ground", and then shove their knives in. Football fans for you, I suppose. Not really sure what you're trying to say .....'"football fans for you" ....what football fans ?.?

I noticed this story also - don't know who she is (Russel Brand's sister-in-law apparently) but seems to live near Windsor so probably a posho. It does however give the opportunity to see how balanced the media response and popular opinion is over similar incidents. Does the reaction differ due to their genders, their class of origin, their supposed parental responsibility, the moral gradient between cheating on a spouse or collecting the kids from a party? It sounds like she was far more over the line than Wazza but do we let the fact that Rooney played for Man U sway our judgement? Are they equally culpable in the eyes of the law and the spleens of the accussers?
