Joe Hart has reportedly been told that he has kept his place against Malta.
Gareth Southgate is ready to give Joe Hart a vote of confidence by including him in England’s World Cup qualifier in Malta and resisting the temptation to call up Jack Butland.
Hart’s position has been in doubt after West Ham’s poor start to the season and his perceived shortcomings when England drew 2-2 against Scotland at Hampden Park in June.
Southgate believes the former Manchester City goalkeeper was partly culpable for both of Leigh Griffiths free-kicks but has decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and Hart has been told that he will start at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali on Friday.

Has already been responsible for two goals against WHU this season.
You could understand giving him game time if he was young and upcoming but he's past it and wank.

He is making a huge error. Huger because it is so avoidable.

You should always pick your most in form players for any game.I thought southgate might have been different but no keeps faith in the old guard. No doubt hart will have an easy game v Malta but this game was ideal for giving players some much needed experience. I won't bother to watch now

What an insult to Butland and Heaton. Jack particularly must be wondering what the fuck he's got to do to get in

I'm happy enough with that. Big game coming up. Would rather Jack be fit and ready to go.

I believe he is saving Jack for the bigger game so he can get a better look at him but they are both competitive games so the best team possible should be selected for both.
Even if he selected his 2 best keepers for the 2 different games Hart still shouldn't be anywhere near the team though, he's absolutely awful.
Not many players have I seen manage to coast on their 'potential' and the fact they play for a top side and therefore automatically have good stats.
De Gea and Cech play for big clubs but they actually show they're brilliant keepers. Hart definitely does not.

it will come in time to be fair by his standards Jack had a wobbly one on Sunday once he gets into his best form he will give Southgate something to think about

Yeah, good idea Southgate. Get him in, watch him pull off a clean sheet against some minnows, then at the World Cup watch him fuck up vs some no mark country again and wonder why you got the bullet you helmet
FFS Only in England!

After Butland got injured in the Germany match I recall a large number of posts on this board whining about compensation, how it had damaged our season etc- with one poster even suggesting we only offer contracts to players that contained a clause saying they would not play international football (and I believe they were serious). And if he were to play and get injured I confidently predict they would be out in force again. For some people amongst us I'm afraid to say that it's absolutely the point.

I doubt it mate, the Slovakia game is 'for real', as things stand today should England lose that one then the Slovak's would leapfrog England and leave us in 2nd place. 2nd place is not automatic qualification, we certainly won't want to find ourselves in the crap shoot of a qualifying KO contest. To that end Southgate will want the same keeper working with the defence in the Malta game on Friday as for the real contest on Monday. Anything else would be crazy. Unless Hart throws a couple in to his own net then he will also start against Slovakia on Monday.

Just to stoke the conspiracy fires a little more, I wonder if Hart would have played had Pickford not withdrawn.

And if Pickford wasn't injured he'd start so it's Pickford > Hart > Butland apparently.
