Man City fans literally driving down the wrong side of the road near the incinerator/Michelin to get away from the baying mobs, it was like Keystone Cops.... Stoke fighting each other thinking each group was Mancs. Before the game, groups of them sitting drinking beer on the car park. Didn't last long. There were "interventions". Saw plenty of cars smashed up along Campbell Road area. A few took a good kicking. An undercover copper got beaten senseless by the mob. Horrible day, even before the game. It truly was. In fact it was hands down the sourest, most poisonous atmosphere I've ever felt at a game. Fighting, bickering, misery.. both sets of fans just utterly pissed off. I've been at some dismal Stoke performances but generally at least there's a bit of gallows humour or banter with good-natured opposition fans buoyed by a victory... not this time - * everyone* was angry. No hope whatsoever. It was foul.

Well, you don't have to be intelligent to be wealthy. If you were offered a free game in a tunnel club, Real Madrid vs Barcelona, would it not interest you at all? All the way to Madrid for a game of football that wasn't even Stoke no thanks. I'd take it off your hands and see if I could sell it or raffle it to charity. Good point most people I know with serious money are thick as fuck. Let's say the games at the bet365 ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/wMWjB17JNiCK5pUPtfmL.gif) It would still interest me if it was free, but then again selling it or raffling it is also a nice option. I think really wealthy people are just willing to spend money on anything they can just for the sake of spending. Really wealthy Tottenham fans will be part of the tunnel club at their new stadium.

Finally after a last man standing sort of stare down they realized all of them were Stoke. Some laughs and handshakes for a minute. Then another Man City goal, and another handful of Mancs tried to evade the home fans. This lot latched into a couple and gave them a good shoeing over the hoardings. We have a bit of history with Man City which definitely added to the edge of the day.

I do confess though - I had a good day out at Maine Road with Steh and his lot for their game against Rotherham (I think) in Div 3. The original Blue Moon forum lads. Good working class, down to earth Mancs. Old school.

I chose to forget that part! We were woeful. After their fourth or fifth didn't Peter Thorne just belt one of the kick offs straight at goal. Or was that the seven nil home defeat to Birmingham? Some of the wilderness years just seem to merge together as one! I often wonder what it must be like to have only really known PL Stoke City. The years prior to 2008 were in some places, too painful to recall... I often think this as I have got my nephews a season ticket between them this year, the eldest is 11 and the other is 8, they don't know anything other than the premier league, I worry that if it goes wrong they just wont care the way I do and wont be bothered about coming as much as they are now only being in my mid to late twenties now I don't remember as much agony as many on here do but I still love the fact we are at the top table but even if we went down I wouldn't walk away the love of a woman waxes and wanes like the moon but my club will last forever

They got relegated a few times. Once they went down to the third tier. On their relegation day to the third tier they played another team about to be relegated who are now in the Premier League. What a strange day that was. There were pockets of Man City fans, sat in different parts of the ground among the Stoke fans. The match was a sell out and some City fans that couldn't get tickets in the away end managed to acquire them in ours. Every now and then a group of them would charge across the pitch in a bid to get to their own end before the stewards or police could nab them. There would be spontaneous fights around the ground as City fans were outed either by their accents or cheers. From time to time you'd see someone literally thrown a out of their seats by Stoke fans, I remember one guy in the east stand being launched over a few rows! I remember queuing at the ticket office to get my ticket and been asked who we had bought Dean Crowe from. Probably to prove I was a Stokie. My accent is more Manc than potteries, I grew up in Macclesfield. I could not remember for the lfe of me where he had come from. Calling in for the ticket on my way home from a 15 hour night shift not helping. The bloke behind me kept whispering something which I eventually worked out was youth team. Finally got my ticket. It was a scary game that for a Stokie with a manc accent. Head down - Mouth shut.

What were Manchester City like before the big money? My impression is that they were a pretty down to earth local oriented club that mostly finished mid table in the top tier and were vulnerable to relegation like all mid table teams. They were often in the same league as us during our wilderness years. Always had good crowds. Never had a major dislike of them still don't they're good to watch. I think this tunnel thing is more symptomatic of the strange things that people seem to want to do nowadays. People often forget that our real wilderness years was between 1907 & 1932, but during our second (and more painful for most of us) wilderness years, Man City played in the same division as us for 5 out of twentysome years. ![(thumbsup)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/q4Mqf5MqRwT9PY8UitYa.gif)

No we don't move ours at all its just a much cheaper way of having a base up there than those holiday homes for big money then about £4k a year site fees.

Don't know how this post got to caravans but it's a bit more real than paying all that money to "look" at players. We bought a van about 18 months ago near Benidorm and wife is there all the time (even now) while I work away. Did it initially to escape the taxmans clutches but now we both love it. Not sure where you grew up but I was on bentilee in the 50's 60's and 70's. The place we are in Spain has that kind of community. Everybody from everywhere but all getting along.....even the footie banter is good natured (up to yet ![(lol)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/lvpvZ64EmrkLcuVniUmo.gif) )

It is my understanding that you can sponsor a player at Stoke for 15k (last season), which gets you two in the Waddington Suite, a signed picture and visits with the player after the match. It keeps the prices for everyone else down (in theory) and probably pays for the free buses. If they get money out of it I'm all for it I just don't understand why anyone wants to do it. Ego stroking. Inside scoop. I indulged in ticket at the Waddington Suite once last season (Middlesborough). I heard quite a few interesting anecdotes. The post-match analysis by Denis Smith and Terry Conroy was very interesting. Got my photo taken with DS and TC and their autographs (never asked for autographs before in my 50+ years supporting the mighty potters). Would I splash out 15k? No! However, I might if I could afford it.
