More doom and gloom, or a winge or a moaning old git. however you want to interpret it really....if you bother to read it anyway lol
I am really worried about our premier league status this season.
look at the transfers.
Out - arnie - 23mill whelan - 1.5 mil walters - 3m bardsley -saw somewhere that was 750k but cant find details now
in Fletcher - free Choupo-Moting - free
zouma -loan indi - if he comes - 7.5m tymon - free
so so far 20million in profit (if indi arrives)
if you take a differnt look on it, and take a look at that footballers market value website, it reads better (if indi joins)
out - arnie -13.5 whelan - 2.25 bardsly -1.35 walters 2.25
Total value : - 19.35 million
in choupo-Moting - 5.40 mil tymon - 900k Total - 6.3 million
if he joins indi - 9.9 mil (if he comes) (total if he joins - 16.4 million)
loan zouma - 13.5 loan (total value with loan = 29.9million )
but, you would expect indi and zouma to be the default cbs, leaving shawcross(value 9.9 million) either on the bench or transfered out ( personally I wouldnt value him anywhere near that since his back injuries) adding 9.9 to the out list, leaves a team that hasnt increased in value.
unless of course the 20million profit is spent on an other player or maybe 2.

Yet more obsession with net spend, it means very little we could spend loads on someone who doesnt add value to the team, see Imbula, but be worse off or pay peanuts for someone who is a real boost, see Fletcher. It is all about the player not the price.

If we ended up with a title-challenging squad through shrewd cheap deals, would people complain?! If we can get good quality players with a net income of transfer cash, excellent!

the point is, we are weaker than we were last season( in which we struggled for large portions of it) whilst other teams have improved.

How do you know We haven't played a competitive game yet And what's the obsession with bardsley and his wife? How do you know ? It's not an exact science but the evidence is pretty strong. Put simply what has happened over the Summer that indicates we are suddenly going to be better than the team that ended last season with one win in 12 ?

the point is, we are weaker than we were last season( in which we struggled for large portions of it) whilst other teams have improved. So; 1: Whelan is better than Fletcher? 2: Bardsley is better than Zouma? 3: You would rather not have Tymon? 4: Jon Walters is irreplaceable, Verlinden and NGoy arent worth his playing time? 5: Arni is irreplaceable without breaking the bank? I cant go with 1-4 1: Love Whelan but I think Fletcher is a more capable player these days than Whelan. 2: For me Zouma is a much more exciting prospect than Phil, not even close. 3: Looks like a promising one for the future to me. 4: Love Jon, but we need progress and development of our youth. He is increasingly moving to the point of stealing time from those players we need to gain experience. 5: Perhaps, but yet to be seen. Maxim looks capable of doing a job. Potential yet to be forgettable business or shake the city business. I will happily hope for the latter. Arni was reqlly good at times. But im not worried too much by his leaving. In addition we arent starting the season with the injury issues we did last season. No Jack and having to wait for Grant was a killer. Ryan back issues etc. I think we are actually a little stronger over all like for like this season to last season. We get BMI and one or two more players in then we will be stronger again.

I'm glad somebody has started a thread on this subject. It's about time somebody said it. I'm amazed nobody's mentioned it before, in fact. Thank goodness. My stars. At last.

Not sure we are stronger than last season. Can you name me 4 viable defenders to start the Everton game, we are woefully short not just of quality, but numbers in that area. We dont know Fletcher will be as effective as Whelan as it is a new setup for him and at best it will take him time to settle, at his age time is not on his side - a totally bizarre signing. Add to that, that bids are coming in for Shawcross and now Allen it seems that there is a little unrest in our camp and certain players may not be happy in the Hughes setup. It is looking like a bit of a Holocaust window at the moment, we do have 3 weeks to go, but Hughes has stated he has completed all his dealings, let us hope that this is just bluff and we have 3 or 4 more coming in, otherwise this is going to be a long season

I can see what you're saying to a point but also: 1) Not convinced Whelan for Fletcher is a like for like replacement. Maybe the 343 will negate the need for a proper holding midfielder, as we don't currently have one. 2) Zouma isn't a replacement for Bardsley is he? Our current right wing back option is a bloke we signed to play centre forward. 3) Tymon may well be promising but left wing back was another area we needed to upgrade on immediately as well. Hopefully that may still happen. 4) Can't argue there 5) Think Choupo-Moting is a shrewd signing, but we shouldn't underestimate what a miss Arnie will be. Even in a so-called 'disappointing' season he contributed more than anyone else creatively, and by a pretty considerable margin. I cannot see any argument whatsoever to suggest we're stronger. For me we need a minimum of 3-4 players to come in still. Plenty of time left, sure we're working hard to bring people in.

the point is, we are weaker than we were last season( in which we struggled for large portions of it) whilst other teams have improved. I actually think we are stronger than last season and in particular that Zouma and Fletcher are going to have a big impact for us. What was noticeable pre-season was that we came back into games after going down which hardly happened last year and I think that's down to a change in attitude/mood within the squad. With the addition of a couple or more decent players (which I believe will happen) we will be a lot stronger. I know this isn't the majority view but I thought Arnie wasn't at his best last season and towards the end felt that he should have been dropped to the bench and Ramadan given a run in the starting 11. He was by far our best player the previous season but I honestly think we have had the best we could out of him. I wish him well (despite being an arse on his departure) but I think it was a good move for both parties - and a disgruntled Arnie in the squad wouldn't have helped anyone. Like the poster most pundits are judging our situation in terms of net spend. I think they are misjudging what is actually happening at the club and we're going to surprise a few people. Including many of our own fans.
