Bloody hell didn't even know Wade Elliott had joined the backroom staff when did that happen? Last april he came, was assistant to hodges prior to becoming manager on full time basis last month.

This is quite interesting from Geoff Cameron... www.theplayerstribune.com/geoff-cameron-what-must-change-in-u-s-soccer/At Stoke, sometimes we have a few of the academy kids come and fill in during practice if we need some extra bodies, and we can usually tell within the first five minutes — seriously, within the first five — whether or not the kid is going to make it as a pro. There’s a certain mentality. A certain look in their eyes. A certain demeanor when they take a really hard tackle. You can recognize it almost instantly. It has nothing to do with athleticism or size — attributes that the scouts and coaches in U.S. Soccer seem obsessed with sometimes. I remember the first time I trained with Bojan Krkić at Stoke. He’s listed at like 5′ 7″, but he looked more like 4′ 10″. And the guy was just an absolute animal out there. He’d made it through the Barcelona system at that size. I remember thinking to myself, What would’ve happened if he had come up in U.S. Soccer?

twitter.com/PaulRStokeLou Macari's grandson playing for the U18s again. Going in with 3 subs is an interesting tactic though...

6-2 now
Toure and Greenidge.
Greenidge needs to be loaned out to someone like Leek Town. He's too good for 18s football and needs testing.

Is that 2 each for Da Silva, Greenidge and Toure?

U23 team currently 1-1 vs Leek Town. Shola Ayoola with the goal. Jarvis missed a penalty.

Now 2-1. Greenidge scored 7 minutes after coming on. He’s an U18 player I think, so that bodes well for him.

About the only Stoke player I was impressed with was Nathan Collins.
I thought he was our best player by a mile.
You had Gyollai coming for anything and everything.
Wara just looking dodgy to his left.
And he kept calm, made nice tackles, interceptions, good on the ball and was vocal.
He's only a first year for the 18s but I was very impressed.
A low quality but fun game.

A low quality but fun game. I have noticed Nathan Collins and, not yet 17 years of age, looks an outstanding prospect. Also from Ireland is the striker James Jennings, who seems to be settling in at Under 18 level and starting to score on a more regular basis. How do you rate James Jennings, Bayern?

I thought Stoke played ok, they created chances and moved the ball around well for a very young side. In previous seasons I've seen them get knocked out of this cup by Walsall Wood and Rushall Olympic and on both those occasions they were out muscled and there wasn't a big enough gap technically to make up for the physical differences. There was still an element of that on corners and free kicks but in open play Leek struggled and Stoke should have won more comfortably.

If this is representative of our academy policy then the whole exercise has been a wastebin, as not one single player has established himself at Stoke. The exception would be Edwards, but Lambert does not seem to have taken to him, and that could spell the end of any hopes we might have had.

well the future doesn't look too bright now, the pizza boys are involved .... "Our technical board is made up of myself, the chief executive Tony Scholes, the manager Paul Lambert and the technical director Mark Cartwright. We share detailed plans for each individual player. What will next week look like for them? What will next year look like for them? When will they make their first-team debut? We look hard at that pathway."

You are perhaps reading too much into what Geoff Cameron says. He says you can recognise within 5 minutes if a player is going to establish himself as a pro. Establishing yourself as a pro is very different to establishing yourself as a Premier League player.
