Hell of a move for him if that comes off.
And a decent return for us, for a player who clearly has zero future here and we're on the hook for 70 grand a week for another 4 years. One of the maybe dozen or so clubs who could afford him permanently actually wanting him is a real bonus.
Big gamble for that much-touted Monchi character for his first foray into the market as their Director of Football if they pull the trigger on it.

Can't help but think he'll go on to be a star somewhere else. I'd love to know what's gone wrong with this. Is it: 1 the player? 2 the manager? 3 the premier league? 4 the weather/culture? 5 all of the above/combination of?

The rumour is there was a massive row between the player and Hughes at half time in the Wolves cup game. As long as Hughes remains he will never play for us again I'm afraid.

A sell-on clause has to be inserted as well as £10m.

I think for a long time now Hughes has thought that if he can get a combined £18 million fee for Imbula and Bojan, then that will get him off the hook for the Imbula signing.
And if truth be told, it probably will.

Has he settled in England (Stoke). Have any of them???? Understand Crouchy, SJW, Whelan etc are fine but maybe there is a culture issue

Well done Sparky!!! you give Ireland a contract, You know.. the player who never made the bench when fit.. keep on persisting with old.. slow midfielders with no creativity & let potential stars like Imbula / Bojan go.
Embarrassingly bad man management. Numerous players have come out and said what a talent this lad is
Good luck wherever the fuck you end up Gianelli! I'll keep an eye out for him and in a weird way hope a proper manager can get the best out of him and show Hughes and co what a mess they made of his Stoke career.
Who's career is Sparky aiming to ruin next? Ramadans?

Over 8.3 Million loss.... Nice negotiating Mr Scholes Blame the man who signed him in the first place, I have no confidence in Scholes and Co. but if he can offload and it is a big if for £10m it would be a good effort, he is a big fat albatross around Hughes's neck he should be kissing their arses if they get him out of the mess he has created. That said he should be made to pay the shortfall back out of his salary.

Over 8.3 Million loss.... Nice negotiating Mr Scholes If he plays his cards wisely he should have any number of add-ons in the contract...although it seems to be something we tend to forget when selling players, as we've seen with Nzonzi and Begovic. However if we could get £10M for a player whose market value is probably less than £5M then that has to down as decent, or in other words we are lucky if our losses are "only" 8M for a player who is essentially useless.

The transfer hasn't worked out. We might never know entirely what went wrong.
But, let's be honest here. For all of his defensive flaws, does anybody really think we'd have been a poorer side in the second half of this season if we'd have given Imbula a few run outs instead of sticking rigidly to a slow, turgid and un-creative midfield three of Allen, Cameron, Whelan/Adam? I really don't see how we could have been much worse and any less creative away at Swansea, West Brom, Burnley or Spurs, or at home to West Ham. At this stage, a part of me honestly suspects that Hughes is reluctant to play Imbula because his mind is already made up and he's terrified of being proven wrong.
And now we're going to sell our record signing for a loss of over £8 million, with some very big clubs on the continent potentially interested in him? It all seems really odd and incredibly disappointing to me. If Imbula ends up at a club like Roma and it works out, and we struggle to reach the top half again next season, it will cost Hughes his job and be considered one of the biggest cock-ups in the history of the club.
Surely a loan to a French club would suit us better? If it works out, great and maybe he can offer something to Stoke after all. If not, we sell for a massive loss anyway.

Still our best central midfielder, and he's been running up and down stairs for three months.
Our midfield is utterly shit, criminally so.

If this deal goes through, we will lose no more on Imbula than we did on Palacios. Yes it was a gamble and I believe there is a true football talent in him, but the rigours of the premier League demand a particular type of player.

And if truth be told, it probably will. He'll do pretty well to get £8m for Bojan though. Do you think? I wouldn't be surprised to see (somebody like) Brighton take a punt for £6 or £7 million. I sometimes wonder if Bojan was jettisoned so quickly, precisely BECAUSE his sale could ultimately be used to offset some of the loss that was undoubtedly going to have to be swallowed on Imbula.

It may only be £10m down but it will be full of clauses to ( hopefully ) enable us to get the money back
