Lengthy statement from him explaining his gambling addiction and disappointment as to it not being taken into consideration. If it was somebody with a clean slate you could maybe have a bit of sympathy but he's run out of lives now.
Bye, bye.

From the Guardian:
Joey Barton has been banned from all football activity for 18 months with immediate effect after he admitted a Football Association misconduct charge in relation to betting.
The 34-year-old Burnley midfielder will not be able to play again until he is 36 and responded by saying the punishment “effectively forces me into an early retirement”. He added that he would appeal against the length of the ban.
It was alleged that between 26 March 2006 and 13 May 2016, he placed 1,260 bets on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, football matches or competitions in breach of FA Rule E8.
Following the independent regulatory commission hearing at the FA, Barton was also fined £30,000 and warned as to his future conduct.
Bloody hell fire - what did he expect? That's 180 a week!

10 years before he was caught WTF! so he betted on over a thousand games before someone realised, surely people must have known he should have a 5 year ban cause no doubt he'll carry on playing after the 18 month ban just to prove a point.

Hefty ban that, must've been betting on games he was involved then you would've thought? daft prick. Yes and no, Yes he bet on his own team to lose but it was only when he wasn't part of the matchday squad. That's why he's appealing the length of the ban, upto now players in breach of the rule but not bet on their own team have got 6 month bans Players that have bet on games that they could have influenced have got 12 months.

Loathe him or hate him it's still a harsh punishment. Not really considering his form. We had a player doing exactly the same thing in Cameron Jerome Like him or not it's harsh ......the precedent has now been set though
