Just like raising a kid, you support them but if you applaud everything they do no matter how poor an effort it is you're not doing them any favors. Not about mindless support or happy clapping, you can encourage them to do better, let them know you are on their side, not castigate every little mistake and berate their failings - so, yeah, just like raising a kid. We've had patience with this kid, given him some space to see if he can find his way back onto the straight and narrow but he only seems to make retrograde steps. Time for some tough love?

The kid done well enough for a bit more support yet. Particularly when the orphanage is so full of wrong 'uns and dysfunctionals.

I agree with Smudge. I never have and never will boo my team at the match (and I have seen us concede 6, 7 and 8 goals in a game!). The clue is in the name - supporter. Yes, I will argue on here and in person about the merits of a manager's decisions or the quality of a player's performance, but at the ground we are meant to be the 12th man. Spot on Jezza
