There's something deeply dishonest and opportunist about Labour calling it a dementia tax, once dementia has fully taken hold that person needs pretty much 24 hour care so in most cases the ill person will go into a care home and have to sell their home anyway. My missus gran had dementia and the only reason her family did not have to put her into a home was the number of kids they had (6) with grandkids and their partners meant that there was enough people to care and this was not to protect the house as it was one of her children's house anyway. This is not going to be the normal situation for most people so for all Labour's invective they will maintain the status quo and leave people with £23k rather than £100k in the proposal. So the house had already been left to somebody to avoid being sold! There was someone on Radio Stoke yesterday who said he had done the same. So, it is deeply opportunistic of Tories to use inheritance tax/house planning whilst expecting others to pay taxes for their relatives upkeep! Hypocritical scum! You really are quite appallingly ignorant and vile. Putting a ! does not disguise this calling a fellow human being you've never met scum. Do you actually understand that almost all local councils charge for care services provided at home and no the house had not been left, not everyone can afford to buy a house to begin with you smug wanker.

That's too harsh. FYD was just adding some personal experience to the debate. Nowt to do with politics. Inheritance tax/house planning arrangements are available to all voters. Apology perhaps?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Tories' plans to heavily regulate the internet, tucked away at the back of the manifesto. www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/theresa-may-internet-conservatives-government-a7744176.htmlAs usual it's proposed to hinder terrorists, paedophiles and perverts; any objections and you're probably one of the above with something to hide. What it actually does is hinders free speech, anti-government whistle-blowing and access to free news and media (with a little nod and a wink to the billionaire media and news barons that have seen a dent in their profits and influence on society). It's a bloody scary prospect.

But it remains a fact some people, often Tories, use inheritance laws to avoid paying taxes and care costs. But, it is O.K. for others to foot the bill not only for their relatives but for much better off people too! Toryism in all its glory!

Former chancellor George Osborne has criticised the Conservative Party’s pledge on immigration.
The former Tory MP and current editor of the Evening Standard wrote in an editorial in today’s paper: “The Conservatives haven’t a clue how they will achieve the commitment to reduce immigration to the tens of thousands.”

Rachel, Stoke: "I believe that they should be re-nationalised following the end of the franchise deal with private railway companies. This would allow the government to control the rising prices of rail tickets and may make the railway service more reliable. It would also allow the government to reap in the profit currently being made by private companies, such as Virgin."

I took exception to you putting Tory scum at the end of a post that included comments about members of my family but you've now confirmed its general ignorance and vileness rather than specific ignorance and vileness. Stay classy Nicholas.

No doubt covered many times already in this thread but whilst we have the dream team of Corbyn, Abbot, McDonnell and Thornberry ready to take the reigns of the country, the Tories can do and promise anything they like - they will get elected and with a hefty majority too.
The nightmare scenario for the Labour Party (and dream scenario for the Tories) is them somehow reaching a higher vote share than Miliband resulting in Corbyn and chums feeling hes the way forward and another 5 years of dire opposition.

Meanwhile out of 229 Labour mps 228 are desperately trying to avoid mention of "him" and if they have to mention him, telling voters don't worry there is no chance he'll be PM. I think the leadership argument is a loser for you.
