The wife and 16yr old son are going here on Thurs for a gig, has anyone been and if so, what is the parking like? Would they need to get there early to get any sort of parking, the area looks a tad 'rough' so would prefer them to park as close to the apollo for a quick getaway after gig if possible. She was hoping to go for some tea when gets there bout 5pm but the options look very limited!!

Easily the best venue I've been. If you're nostalgic for the Boothen End, this venue slopes down towards the stage complete with crush barriers, though I guess seats are permanently installed now? Last time I went, I walked back to the city centre and there were Police lining the route all the way back. Trip Advisor recommends the official Apollo car park for the least hassle.

Never had a problem with it the last time I was there was about 4 years ago. There is parking adjacent to the venue. Easy to get to and fairly easy to get away from .

Parking is fine - even late in the day, just head for the venue and look for the blokes in hi-viz waving you towards various temporary car parks. Usually around a fiver.
Venue-wise - it's OK, but not one of my favourites. Are they standing or in the seats upstairs? Standing is OK and seating downstairs (if it's set up for seating - it's removable dependent on the artist playing) also is OK.
The circle upstairs tends to feel a bit distant/high the further you are away from the stage as the seating was originally designed for the cinema that the Apollo once was.
Anyway - hope they enjoy it.

It's gonna be busy as fuck at 5pm but they should head for Stockport and get onto the A6 (big long road that the Apollo is off) and travel as far as the mcvities factory where there is a McDonald's & KFC on the opposite side for somewhere to eat. Beyond that point it's "rough". Some cracking places to eat if you're a male who isn't easily put off but I wouldn't want my wife & teenage son mulling around there. If they park near the McDonald's & KFC they can jump on a 192 bus which will take em straight to the Apollo. They run at something like 8 buses an hour and will still be very frequent after the gig to take them back.
If they're wanting somewhere nicer than McDonald's & KFC to then Google heaton moor road and head to there and they can park up and still catch a 192 (5 minute walk to the A6). Heaton moor is safe as houses with some brilliant places to eat. Nice vibe too. That would be my recommendation tbh. Just means they're sightly further away from the venue but it's 20 minutes on a bus which takes em along one straight road and lands em opposite the Apollo. Two all day tickets cost 8 quid but you wouldn't need to pay for parking or a taxi.
