I see the Turks are kicking off. Erdogan calling the Germans Nazi's (never!) and even saying the Dutch the same (definitely never). Now trouble in Holland overnight. Turkey have a cheek with what they do to Kurds. If Erdogan is not happy then let him welcome them back from mainstream Europe to Turkey.

A pro-Erdogan newspaper saying how Holland only has 48,000 troops but there are 400,000 Turks living there. What are they getting at with that kind of headline?

I love the way this power hungry dictator is calling everyone a Nazi for not allowing Turkish political rallies in their country. ... Foreign political rallies are banned in Turkey.

I wonder if this was all arranged by both sides like some political WWF wrestling match...
Turkey: We'll call you "Nazis" which nobody will take seriously. Then you don't let one of our Ministers into the Netherlands.
Netherlands: Sounds good, can you send out some of your activist goons to smash a few winderz? Then our PM can look like a hardliner, Wilders won't like that.
Turkey: Deal.
The Dutch government get to flex their muscles ahead of an election. Erdogan gets to show his belligerent streak in public. At the end of it all, Turkey joins what's left of the EU just like Ravishing Rick Rude and Big Boss Man got paid.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theory type but I think you might be on to something here. BBC reporting this afternoon that Erdogan will wait until after Wednesday's Dutch election to disclose his diplomatic retaliation against Holland ?!? Rutte is allowed to show a 'robust' defence to claims of Nazism from an Islamic country and woo's the undecided right wing-lite voters on Wednesday. I'll bet a pound to a penny if Rutte wins the election then this will all be a 'diplomatic mis-understanding' or some such.

I couldn't guess whether you disliked Muslims more than you love anti-democratic thugs before I read this. I know some great Turks who hate Erdogan and love democracy. Now I can't guess if you'd dislike them more because they're Turkish or because you'd think they're whining SJWs.

I spent 3 or 4 hours in a Police cell in Istanbul once.
It was quite unpleasant, particularly as I'd just watched the film 'Midnight Express' a week or so earlier and my mate, who was in the cell with me, insisted making an almighty fuss, rattling the bars and such like.
Carry on :)

Far more boring than that I'm afraid :( Northern Irish mate of mine, always used to cash more than he ever spent, used to give the remainder to me on the last night in cos he always stayed onboard, I hated it cos I always felt obliged to get his mum a gizzet, on this occasion the only money I had left was what he'd given me, it was 'a bit creased', turns out defacing the currency is an offence 'cos of the Attaturk chappie being on the notes and the taxi driver took offence :( Taxi driver dropped us at an army post first of all, they pointed (presumably loaded) rifles at us and had us stood with our arms in the air and our shopping at our feet, I'd probably have been worried if I wasn't shitfaced...

So apart from your petty personal digs at TDC what do actually think about a Foreign Head of State electioneering in another country? Trump rallies in Germany to secure the army/air force personnel votes. Macron addressing the hundreds of thousands of French citizens in London, or Le Pen for that matter. The Turks plan campaign rallies in Holland, the Dutch authorities don't allow Turkish officials to attend, the officials fly out anyway, the officials get turned away, the supporters of the officials start violent protests. Why are you not condemning this? Instead of trolling someone who is. Here's the Turkish flag flying above the Dutch embassy in Istanbul after a protester took the Dutch one down. Happy with that?

Not the best place to be when there's tension in the air, we were there when there was marshall law and a curfew, 5 to midnight and a fleet of taxis heading back to the ship pronto and a load of gun toting soldiers on the jetty

All the time we were being held at gunpoint, then nicked and held in a cell we had no clue what was going on, we hadn't been fighting or anything, thought it was a case of mistaken identity, none of them spoke English and we certainly didn't speak any Turkish.

Were you on Fearless for Falklands conflict? I spent two days on there after Antelope was sunk. Remember being locked in the tank deck during action stations and hearing bombs exploding close by the ship. Very scary. Fearless was hit by 20mm cannon think it was the MEOs cabin that got trashed. There was also a very officious chief jack dusty who insisted on us signing 126s to get survivors kit issued to us. Never did see the recovery of the cost though. Expect somebody put him in his place.

The Dutch media report that 82% of the Dutch public voted today......
It's very early doors but up to now it looks as though Mark Rutte ( VVD - Vereningde Volks Democraten ), United People's Democracy party will stay as first minister.

When I google 'Dutch Turkish dispute' seemingly all reports end a couple of days before the Dutch election. No new articles. There are some 'EU/Turkish relations at all time low' historical pieces but nothing new. The same if you google 'Rutte criticises Turkey'. It all ends mid March.
