Hughes has shown himself to be out of his depth spending big money. I'm now thinking he daren't start with Berahino against M'boro in case he flops.
No confidence in the manager now from my point of view.

Yes there needs a clear out, unfortunately Hughes is not the man to do it, look at part of his track record Imbula, 18 million down the drain Shaqiri never out of the physios office Berahino hasn't scored a goal for twelve months and is nowhere near fit enough to play 90 mins Wolscheild another 5 million down the drain Joselu another 5 million down the drain Dont get me going on Bony or texeira Peter Coates surely isn't stupid enough to give him any more money with that record, its time for him to go, get Ranieri in while he is available

Imbula and the Imbula problem enrages me.
Similar, but to a lesser extent, with Shaq.
This is not my football club. The wages and fees are not part of the football culture I want to see.
Obscene. Grotesque.

The same Ranieri who's team didn't score a single league goal in his last seven games? That oversaw the worst title defence in modern football history? That guy?

For every Wollscheid there is a Martins Indi. For every Joselu there is a Bojan. For every Imbula there is an Arnautovic. I think that Hughes has got more transfers right than wrong whilst at Stoke. And don't forget that Alex Ferguson once spunked £40,000,000 on Veron!

He's our only properly creative central player, and I very much doubt we'll find better for anything other than a huge transfer fee. If we do by the way, I'm more than prepared to eat humble pie, it's really what I'm relying on. So take away our only creative central player, meaning the midfield is an engine room, i.e. the cage. and our play comes from balls over the midfield, i.e. long diagonals. We have some skill on the wing, but thats stopped far too easily by sticking two men on each winger. I'd argue that Shaqiri, Arnie and Ramadan are creative. I'd also argue that Afellay can be a creative influence as well, as is Stephen Ireland when fit. To say Bojan is our only creative player is plain wrong but also ignores the fact that when playing as badly as he was, his creativity was practically zero anyway. None of those three are central players, as I said, the only creativity we have is in wide areas, almost none in the middle. Afellay can be a bit I suppose, but I'd argue he's more a player who keeps the ball moving and brings it forward, not so much a final third player. Ireland is injured, has been for a while, looks like he's not back soon, and is the wrong side of 30. Aside from that, I'd argue the performances were the whole team, and there were definitely worse performances than Bojan in positions with much more backup. It was shown against palace, we end up lumping it forward to the striker over the midfield, or just praying that the wingers can beat 3 men to get in a hopeful cross. It'll get us some wins against poorer teams but it's a huge regression to not have any properly talented creative man in the midfield.

I'm beginning to think something seriously bad has happened with Imbula, like a disciplinary thing which the club has kept internal. There's no other way to make it all add up imo. They found out he's a French lady boy 😀

We need incomings like Ramadan, a shift in transfer policy away from stalled players that see us as a drop down to younger hungry players that see us as a step in the right direction
I like Shaq but it's been painfully obvious since him refusing to even speak to us up to this point that he sees himself as above us, he's not playing for the shirt he's playing for a move away
And don't give me the modern football nonsense, Ramadan has shown more fight and passion in 2 games than Shaqiri has since coming here, there's still room for passion and fight even if we are a stepping stone club

The Good- Arnie, Grant, Indi (loan), Allen, Bardsley, Piters (could have been Pulis before he was sacked) The Bad- Imbula, Johnson (sicknote), Shaq (sicknote), Bojan(fucked off on loan), Tex, MVG (loan), Given, Hagred, Wolfy(fucked off on loan), Guidettie (loan), Ireland, Joselu(fucked off on loan), Muniesa (sick note), Diouf (as a striker), Bony (loan) The Ugly- Imbula, Hagred, Wolfy and Tex.

If you're going through his whole policy of transfers I reckon they're mostly average with a few good and a few bad, same as anyone else.
Done/did well for us for extended periods - Arnie, Bojan, Grant, Pieters, Indi, Odemwingie Looked like good players in patches - Ramadan, Johnson, Shaq, Bardsley, Allen, Diouf, Muni, Afellay, Moses, Imbula average or not given proper chances - Ireland, Joselu, Wollscheid, Assaidi, Van Ginkel, Guidetti Looked poor - Bony, Haugaard, Teixeira, Sidwell, Given
Not included Saido cause he's only just joined. Doesnt look too bad really, couple of the 'looked good in patches' could be moved down i suppose. But it's definitely not an awful policy in terms of individuals. The biggest genuine failure is that we haven't been able to replace Whelan or Nzonzi, and we've tried a lot. Fix whelan's position with a proper pacey, strong sitting midfielder and we'd be in a much better position I think.

You think if it wasn't for the money in football we'd be in the Premier League right now? Pulis had one of the highest net spends in his tenure, big money in football is the primary reason we are where we are now so don't make me laugh.

Without sounding too cynical I don't really care if we lose money on players as long as it doesn't harm the long term financial position and that they are all replaced to enable Stoke to play good football not long ball all the time to a now very slow centre forward.
The majority of the money we have spent has either come from SKY , well I suppose I do have an interest in that as I pay a large subscription each month , more fool me , or its come from BET 365 and whilst admiring how the Coates family have built this up it is after all a glorified bookmakers and when were they anything but totally selfish so no problems with them wasting their money.
I think on balance Hughes has been backed pretty well and achieved an average result in top half each season , but I cant help but think someone else could do better and maybe it would be worth a try ?

Yeah you can't have Bojan in the top list when we're trying to move him on 12 months after giving him a 5 year contract.

I would say the only period he hasn't done well in (barring his first 4/5 games after he joined) is this season really. last third of last he didn't play really, before that he was excellent, then before his injury he was also excellent. But if you discount loans then you get rid of a lot of the average/poor players too, and it still is similar to what you'd expect. i.e. mostly average with a few good and a few bad. As I say though I'm hardly trusting of him, the turnaround to the old guard this year (whilst necessary at the start of the season) has worried me a lot. His individual transfers have been ok in terms of their performances, just that most of them aren't what we need or haven't been utilised properly.
