Banned for 18 months and £54,000 fine. The Ivory Coast player, 33, told a court he thought he was drinking diet cola from a jug at a party, without realising it had brandy in it.Barkingside Magistrates Court said Toure had an alcohol reading of 75 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath - more than twice England's legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Wonder if there is any truth in what he said. Seems odd to me he got drunk intentionally.

You'd think he could tell when he fell over.....but that is an occupational hazard with him.

presumably he learned his defence from Pep, who definitely didn't contribute to his own failed drugs test back in the day

I could tell, without a shadow of a doubt, if coke had brandy in it. Maybe not Vodka, but Brandy!! The stuff stinks.
Given he does not drink alcohol, he must have known the coke tasted different.
Full of shit the bloke is.

Fined less than a weeks wages.
Joe Publick gets approx One months wages plus fine and extreme hardship. Not condoning drink and drive but let's have some equilibrium.
Stinks.

Rightly or wrongly you can't discriminate a sentence depending on earnings punishments are standard and set out That isn't true in this case. The court report on the BBC website (linked in Clayton Wood's post above) says "He was fined £54,000 - a means-tested fine - and banned from driving for 18 months by Barkingside magistrates." So the fine was means tested although, given the size of his alleged wages, I think you have to say that he got off lightly compared to a bloke on average wages.

What a fucking tit. Reminds me of that other devout muslim Cisse who had a problem wearing the Newcastle top due to the sponsor Wonga being perceived as linked to gambling, and was then pictured playing the tables at a casino not long after. Twats.

Twats. I don't think Wonga are linked to gambling are they? Other than the fact that many of their customers also probably gamble which may be why they turn to Wonga to cover their debts. Cisse's (and many Muslim's)problem with Wonga is that they charge interest - in Wonga's case thousands of percent interest.
