Just read that the next issue of the excellent retro footy mag Backpass will be the last. I was expecting this as the editor was having problems and extreme expense getting WH Smiths to sell it and when I questioned him he got a bit snotty! Was quite a good one for Stoke articles such as a recent Eric Skeels one and earlier ones on Sir Stan and Greenhoff. So we are stuck with 442 which I reckon is too top Euro teams orientated and the youngsters mags Motd and Match. Mind you at least they have a few Stoke pics in, - well for this season at least, till the championship comes along!!

This is further proof of the decline of printed media, particularly newspapers and magazines. Magazines have a fraction of the circulation they used to have.

Magazines really are becoming speciality items; I used to stand in WHSmith for hours flicking through the 1000's of magazines they carried. Not many of those titles survive nowadays and very few made the successful transition to an online business model...as a result specialist content is of a much lower quality and there's far less of it, whereas average and crappy ad-driven, data mining content is now ubiquitous. It's not the same

Good news !! BACKPASS magazine has been saved - thanks to the intervention of the PFA.
It had almost been finished off by soaring distribution costs [seems to be WH Smith charging a fortune to distribute mags to its' own stores...]
Issue 52 will be out any time - but best way to get a copy is to take out a subscription.
As 442 gets worse and worse - BACKPASS goes from strength to strength.
Cheers !
