I've read so much positive stuff about him in the past few days I'm pretty much convinced he is top notch! It's just that I've never thought that when watching him play for L'pool or Swansea - but what the heck That's what's warming my heart too! But I bet you could go back six months on here and find threads chastising him. I want to know when, where and why the sea change came. The change came I guess because he improved a lot under Klopp and then had a stormer at the Euros? The jury is out on whether he can play a holding role or even if we'll have a specific holding role in the conventional sense this season. He's definitely being signed as a Whelan upgrade IMO. I personally think he'll be able to play that role while being more mobile and being able to push up with Whelan coming in when required. I accept others aren't as confident and there's an argument for that as well though.

Joe Allen is going to be great for us, WHEN HE FUCKING SIGNS....
What's the hold up? Fee agreed? Terms agreed? Medical passed?
Can't Scholes complete more than one deal a day?

Still as the deepest midfielder? Box to box I would say, definitely wasn't sitting like he was used before. So not what we need then?

He's absolutely tiny isn't he. Could put him in my pocket. That's the one thing that worries me slightly. We do need to add some height somewhere. We are accumulating a lot of smaller players.

Considering that he made the most interceptions at the Euros..... That's a good start but I like my defensive to tackle and stuff. Just can see Bojan missing out on the end to accommodate Whelan, Allen and Imbula. He does, he's a little bloke but he's a right terrier, watching the semi final back against us he was superb at getting the ball back and getting it up the pitch

I wonder if you put him, Berahino and Sobhi in the team whether we'd have gone from being the tallest team in the Prem a few years ago to the shortest? Particularly if you removed any of our CFs, Arnie and Imbula. Certainly isn't going to do anything to improve our set pieces... [I'm very happy at the prospect of this signing by the way - I think he has the potential to significantly improve how quickly and effectively we circulate the ball]

But Klopp is a very very good manager, what's to suggest he won't just go back to being Joe Allen like he was under other decent managers? I'm definitely not convinced he can replace Whelan but do think that's where he is earmarked.

So not what we need then? he isn't exclusively a 'Whelan type' but I still think he can bring other qualities to our midfield. Very good at closing down and getting the ball back, confident on the ball and has lots of energy.

Very good at closing down and getting the ball back, confident on the ball and has lots of energy. But will it leave holes in the midfield? We've seen Imbula can't be trusted to do that side (unless some serious coaching is going on as we speak). If he can plug gaps and protect the back 4 then ace but that's never really been his job has it? And it is what we need.

Compared to other eye watering transfers I agree. Still stupid money that just says it all about fans being de-sensitised to the real value of the money being spent. £15m is equivalent to the annual wages of 500 people on an average pay deal. £15m would buy around 150 decent 2 bedroom terraced houses in Stoke. The £2m add-on would be enough to buy a decent annuity for 10 BHS staff who have recently lost their pensions. The £2m add-on would pay for over 650 heart by pass operations or over 300 hip replacements. So yes we may see Allen as a good deal in the parallel world called PL football, but in the real world......I'm doubting it very much. Top top post. I've written to Saint Peter suggesting that the club buy 150 decent 2 bedroom terraced houses in Stoke. I'll let you know what he says in reply.

I cant help thinking that Joe Allen is biding time on Swansea. I just don't feel we're his first choice.
Hope im wrong. Things like home towns do carry weight though.

And if he isn't then it makes no sense as we don't need a 13m pound rival to our most expensive player ever (yet).

Cracking business for Liverpool if true. Major shock if they don't get at least £14M for a player in the last year of his contract (if the details in the article are true) Shame we didn't get something similar into N'Zonzi's deal. £1M for avoiding relegation + £1M for top half and £1M for Europa League win would have made the initial £7M fee alot more palatable. But transfer fees now appear to be almost double what they were last season, so you are hardly comparing like for like.

"Huw, i've seen it and it's nothing to brag about" You could also go with "When id finished the hole was this big so i chucked huw a shovel and said try filling that" 15 million for joe allen tell that welshie huw ive got that down the back of the sofa. Then when ive finished spunking that on players ill spunk on his wife and show him a picture of her face saying "see that thats no melted cheese oatcake thats your mrs face that is" then wipe my dick on a swansea shit and leave em both crying him in despair and her in passion
