Still think his preferred destination is Swansea. Let's hope they stay well out. Maybe not, wouldn't u think they would have placed a bid by now, knowing we are in advanced talks with the player himself, surely if they want him, and supposedly know he would prefer to go back to Swansea they would have placed a bid by now?? Playing devils advocate maybe they have spoke to him already and he's said he wants to come to Stoke?? I don't know how intelligent or thick he is but might he not just think going back to Swansea would be seen as an admission of failure at Liverpool. Wheras coming to us he could pass off as another step up the ladder

I did read the other day that Allen was reluctant to go back to Swansea if Brendan Rodgers became manager, as he didn't want the 'bosses favourite' tag hanging over his head his whole career. I know that's a moot point now, but maybe the same could be said about the chairman's desire to bring him back.
The point is, we really don't know how Joe Allen is prioritising things in his own mind. Maybe he wants to leave Swansea as a part of his past, that he can always look back on fondly?

Wheras coming to us he could pass off as another step up the ladder That's a good point. Some people like going back and some don't. But even those who are happy to go back often see it as a move they would like to make at the end of their careers not when they are at or near their prime. If we do get him then I think Hughes will be a huge factor in clinching the deal - plus the fact that he will be going to a stable club in Stoke whereas Swansea are in a period of change. You can't simply assume that a takeover will necessarily work out well for club, manager or players - some do but an equal number don't.

Hopefully Joe Allen sees us for what we are. A well established well run premier league club who are looking to move forward. We are a very good prospect to a lot of players. Swansea at the moment look to be going backwards and with new owners and manager some uncertainty. He won't be going back to Swansea the way he left it. To me it's a no brainier (although biased) Sign for stoke.

Maybe Liverpool don't want to sell to Swansea and won't accept their offer? Maybe Swansea are saying they will write-off what Liverpool still owe them and they will take him back?

Their one and only set of comments on the subject didn't exactly shout "back off Stoke we're having him" did they?
Said they were obviously interested but they've got a full midfield and £13m is a bit of a high valuation

I don't really understand the "he'll choose Swansea" argument.
He's already played there. He's moved on. He's at a good age and it's pretty obvious to everyone that out of the 2 clubs, which club is n more ambitious, bigger, stable, and the squad to challenge.
Signing for Swansea would be a huge step back in his career. Obviously signing for Stoke from Liverpool is a step down, but taking 2 steps back by signing for Swansea would be silly.
Its a move you'd consider in the latter stages of your career to go back to your home club.

Some reports suggesting he's having his medical... Which reports?....... Accounts on Twitter and on the transfer markt website it looks as though they've taken away his team and he's now labelled as a free agent until Stoke sign him. Some websites in Italy stating that 3 clubs missed out on him as he's having his medical with Stoke. I'll try to find the URL.

We'll have to disagree on Berahino. I don't judge him on last season, when his head was obviously not right after he felt he was denied a dream move to Spurs. I thought that the season before last he was excellent. He still clearly has some "issues" but no more than Arnie did when we signed him - I'm sure there is scope for Hughes to make him feel wanted. That is probably what he needs given that he is a refugee from war torn Burundi. Why I want Berahino (or a player like him) is that he would be unlike any other striker at Stoke. I think to reach the top 6 in the Prem you need an instinctive finisher with strength, a good first touch and reasonable pace - we have no one who has all those attributes and have not had for some years. If we got one and if Hughes could get him motivated that would be worth 3 or 4 places in the table.

I'm sure Hughes will fly out tomorrow if needs be. He's hardly likely to allow a transfer to fall down because he failed to meet with a player. No reason why the rest of the coaching staff can't prepare the players for the game on Wednesday evening. Hopefully, Allen (and maybe Ramandan?) will be flying out to the USA by midweek if not with Hughes tomorrow
