Hard to believe..but I'd never watched a single episode before this weekend
Ended up watching one this weekend, watched another..and now I'm bloody hooked, got it on a series link on Sky box LOL I think its something to do with a vision of England we wished still exists - apart from the serial killing. Come to think of it, its a bit like Penkhull without the interbreeding.
Been watching some Wycliffe too; love the Cornwall settings

Quite easy watching, midsomer! Pass an easy hour away! Its great isn't it.
The characters tend to be caricatures and the murderer always commits enough killings to warrant a whole series of Crimes That Shook Britain. Gorgeous countryside too.
Ive only got 108 episodes to catch up on as well

You will also notice that some actors play different characters during the series. I have noticed one male actor has so far appeared in 4 different episodes, and there have been quite a few who have been in 2 or 3 episodes.
Easy watching, beautiful countryside, and the seemingly idyllic village life, before the murderer strikes !

My mum god bless her, tries to guess the murder methods prior to the episode starting. She's only been correct once. Some poor sod got dunked in a barrel head first. She was never going to get that one.

Any takers for Wycliffe??
Love the theme tune; a little darker perhaps than Midsomer but similar quirky characters and very atmospheric

Ghost towns springs to mind. Graveyards at bursting point. Prisons at bursting point. Just the odd taxi driver scraping around for a fare.
Snake Pliskin lives.

I wish theyd crack on with that remake! Is that in the pipeline then, mooted, talked about etc.. I'd make an effort to see that. From Wikipedia "In 2007, Scottish actor Gerard Butler was close to signing a deal in which he would play Snake Plissken in a remake of Carpenter's film.[40] Neal Moritz was to produce and Ken Nolan was to write the screenplay which would combine an original story for Plissken with the story from the 1981 film, although Carpenter hinted that the film might be a prequel.[41]
New Line Cinema (one-time video distributor of the original) acquired the rights to the film from co-rights holder StudioCanal, who will control the European rights, and Carpenter, who will serve as an executive producer and said, "Snake is one of my fondest creations. Kurt Russell did an incredible job, and it would be fun to see someone else try."[42] Russell has commented on the remake and on the casting of Butler as Plissken, saying, "I will say that when I was told who was going to play Snake Plissken, my initial reaction was 'Oh, man!' [Russell winces]. I do think that character was quintessentially one thing. And that is, American."[43]
Len Wiseman was attached to direct but he dropped out of the project; rumors then circulated that Brett Ratner would helm the film.[44] As Ratner did not formally commit to the project, the identity of the director became unclear. The studio brought Jonathan Mostow in to rewrite, with an option to direct. In addition, Gerard Butler bowed out of his role, claiming "creative differences".[45] Allan Loeb wrote a script for the New Line Cinema project.[46] Breck Eisner was then announced as the director of the remake, which was said to have scrapped the idea of a post-apocalyptic New York like the original, but rather would feature a New York that had been built after the bomb.[47]
In November 2010, reports cited Jeremy Renner as being in talks to play Snake Plissken.[48] In July 2011, Deadline Hollywood reported that New Line and Warner Bros. had dropped the option to remake the film, allowing other studios to potentially option it.[49] On March 18, 2013, Joel Silver and his studio company Silver Pictures teamed with StudioCanal to reboot the film as a trilogy, starting with an origin story in a fashion similar to the way Rise of the Planet of the Apes restarted that franchise.[50] On February 10, 2014, Collider interviewed Silver about the film saying that the film's script is inspired by the video game Batman: Arkham City.[51] On January 13, 2015, 20th Century Fox won the bid for the film rights of the remake with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman's The Picture Company will produce.[52] On October 12, 2015, Neil Cross was announced to write the film's script.[53]"
Neil Cross is a great writer, he was behind Luther (Idris Elba) and has plans for a reboot of Sapphire & Steel Charlie Hunnam was linked strongly with playing Snake - he was good in Sons Of Anarchy to be fair. Tom Hardy was linked too - but you cant be both Max & Snake can you??!

Been watching some Wycliffe too; love the Cornwall settings There's a really good Midsomer Murders episode where two archaeologists are trying to bump one another off over one 'salting' a site with finds from somewhere else about 40 years before and claiming a great discovery. As a professional archaeologist, I can say it came uncomfortably close to the truth! Another favourite has some nasty goings in with the vicar in the church, and some of the most inventive deaths they ever did. I went off it a bit when John Nettles left, so I don't know what the newer ones are like.

I have caught bits with the other guy that replaced Nettles; find him quite unappealing but Ill shall watch them as they repeat them - this could be a long thread!

Interesting. Makes buying a footballer a piece of cake. So, some quality names attached to the project. I see what is meant now by, hurry up and make it.

With a poisonous mixture derived from some exotic plant deftly added to some poor unfortunates G&T to stop them claiming their share of the will. Well, it's a possibility.

There doesn't seem a lot of immigration coming into Midsomer does there?? I think 99% of characters were white in the earlier ones. There's always a token black guy or person of Asian descent in each episode now since Brian True-May put his foot in it.

Back for a new series, not as good with Neil Dudgeon though. Not got the vibe somehow of the Nettles episodes. Been dead busy at work so got 14 episodes on my sky box to plough through, most of them from the older and better era.
