As usual its all going tits up for some people before we have kicked a ball in true anger and signed no one yet so knicker wetting is the order of the day. So i just thought to enable the wrist slashers the abilty to reach out and touch each other we could stick it all in one thread. Or it could just get shit binned and we can all go down together in a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth because we are doomed i tell you doomed.

Better still, find the thread from last pre-season and bring it to the top. That'll save a lot of keyboards from being ruined as people cry and type. they can just say "agree" instead of typing the same old guff again.

It just highlights once more that we desperately need a goalkeeper and somebody to put the ball in the net. Oh and we can't defend. But we knew this last year

Be nice to see some evidence this season in pre-season that we are starting to get our shit together.
Pre-season was absolutely desperate last season culminating in a drubbing at Brentford. We created nothing at all and always looked likely to concede.
It's fine to point at a decent finishing place but last season we carried our pre-season form in to the season proper and garnered a pitiful 3 points from the first possible 18. Sure we picked up from there but with just an average start to the season we'd be looking forward to some Europa Cup ties now.
Instead of pretending it doesn't matter lets start trying to put together some meaningful action this time

We didnt win a game until the end of September last season and the stronger in the second half of the season myth was laid to rest. I hope we're doing something a bit different this year to try an get a better start.

I haven't seen too much knicker wetting.
We finished the season like relegation contenders.
We have yet to address glaring weaknesses in the squad.
I think people are being pretty tolerant and level headed tbh.

The same posters with the same axe that they'll be no doubt grinding all season, like last season and the season before...

We didnt win a game until the end of September last season and the stronger in the second half of the season myth was laid to rest. I hope we're doing something a bit different this year to try an get a better start. The last 3 years MH (& Co.) have signed up anyone who was available/free who represented a strengthening of the squad. This year there seems to be a more measured approach and we have generally only been associated with very talented players. The problem with bringing in new players is it can disrupt the team and upset some of the existing players. This I think was evident at the start of last season when Ryan's absence lead to a shambles of defence, which only started to get sorted just before Ryan came back. There is also disruption due to MH's apparent policy that if you don't perform, someone else gets a chance (very different to TP picking the same team every week); this was particularly evident with the weekly change in strikers. You're comment on the "stronger ..second half...myth" is interesting. The fact is MH's teams have invariably had a stronger second half season, but last season the results fell apart due to injuries, particularly Butland, loss of form notably Pieters, but even Ryan played badly on his third return to the team. There were others like Shaqiri who seemed to lose any drive or ambition once we were out of contention for cups and Europe and players were maybe "saving themselves" for the Euro Nations tournament. The key issue for me this pre-season are 1) get Arni signed up, 2) get our defence organized (yesterday was another shambles), 3) find a way to break down massed defences. I don't think major signings is as important as most others on this board seem to think. Yes, it would be great to find top class players to improve the team, but I'm not convinced by some of the names being talked about.

I'd add that I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there was a corner/set piece epiphany against West Ham on the last day. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of that sort of thing this season.

The leagues going to be tougher this season and if we end up playing like we did last season, well... We're in for a fucking battle that's for sure.

It seems that the Coates family may have drawn the purse strings tight shut, they backed Hughes with plenty of cash to improve the team maybe they are not sure that he can be trusted with any more as happened with Pulis, last seasons transfer window was poor.

Garbage mate, utter crap. We have the money to spend, do we have the wherewithal to spend it. Has the OP taken into account our shocking end to the season?

Agree we have the money to spend but will it be entrusted to Hughes ?, the decisions he made on transfers in and out last summer were baffling.

We were abysmal in Cologne last year and with that being so close to the first game, I feel as though we took that form into the league a bit. Individual players certainly looked off pace.
As it goes, I'm not overly concerned because the team was a mish mash of reserves and youth players anyway.

What have you been drinking - it must be powerful stuff. How any logical person can draw those conclusions from our activity so far is beyond belief.
