I'm trying not read much into it, but its hard not to with his recent history, its an issue for a reason. If its niggling now after 8 weeks off, it seems likely to be an issue playing every week.

This is the only genuine worry from today for me. If he can't be relied upon for fitness and he can't then we need another top bollock centre half.
Results at this point mean naff all but this is troublesome.

I have felt for a while that we might have seen the best of Shawcross. We need an alternative and that's not going to be easy. This has been going on for 18 months. He could still probably manage it for England though

This is very bad news. We are looking at signing two top centre halves and then bedding them down. We won't get away with it again.

I thought he'd be fit enough to be playing the first friendly, call me optimistic....... HA! Why? He obviously has inherent back problems and will struggle the rest of his career. Something I and a few others suggested sometime back only to be shot down. We need two top class centre halves - we've got no chance of getting them with the lazy arse fuckers that run the club.

We should but won't replace him. It would be better to use ryan as cover if this back issue persists. We need a fully fit 1st team player not cover for ryan. Back issues are shit, you can be great one day and the next you can't walk, and then it takes months to get back to where you were, and bang there it goes again.

I also suggested that giving him a new contract wasn't the wisest decision only to be slaughtered.... hmmmmmmmm
Pray to God he can come through it,otherwise we're fucked with a capital F.

We had centre halves coming out of our ears at one time. Now we have a manager who doesn't know what one is

Like others on here I said several months ago that back injuries are very complicated things.
Like others on here I was shot down and told that the experts knew what they were doing and don't talk rubbish.
No body has more respect for Shawcross than I but I do feel that we need some cover for this extremely important roll.

With all the money in football and Ryan's difficulties last season I think it would be nothing short of negligent if the club didn't plan for the worst now - ie Ryan to miss all or a lot of next season.

I though the Swiss centre back, Fabian Schär looked a class act at the Euros and expected bids after the tournament. I'd have thought he would be a realistic target and looks like he'd be quite at home in English football?

This surly can't be a problem that the club haven't thought about and I'm sure if Ryan was feeling anything too much in his back,he would have said, if he felt it was obstructing him enough not to play and not just today.Maybe it is just minor but it is a worry. Don't want him to be another Ledley King.

No wonder we've slapped in a £4.25m offer for Sebastian Bassong. We are doomed!!!! if we sign him, must be the most unluckiest player for premiership relegations than any other, total 4 times. Newcastle, Wolves, Norwichx2. 1 man doesn't make a relegated team I know but it's not good reading.
