....in the first half
frustration was a little understandable
but thanks to hughes he stuck to his guns.... as he said - the team is not set up for long ball (until its needed)
the team did a brilliant job on the ground!!!

You're wrong. The fans didn't want long ball, we just didn't want our keeper giving it to our worse footballer in the right back position every goal kick.

I don't think they wanted long ball they just didn't want them pissing about it when they were under pressure and losing it in dangerous areas.
I think the boot up the arse from the fans as much as the manager did the trick today.
It was sheer frustration and they took it in the right way.

A bit of positivity and wanting to pass the ball forwards with urgency and purpose is all I want.. not sure about your long ball theory.

The frustration was from both centre half's level with the 6 yards box. Then the 2 steps forward 4 steps back. The lack of fight and passion. Thankfully the fans let it be known and the players responded well.

We were dreadful with it on the ground first half. Yet again we persisted with what wasn't working and played right into their hands, unwilling to change.
Thankfully we eventually abandoned it.
It took Ryan firing up the crowd, which in turn fired up the side, to get any kind of reaction, and then we remembered we are actually a good side with good players who are capable of playing at tempo and causing teams problems.

It's a wonder we didn't go in 3-0 down at half time.

People just wanted them to show some desire to win, we just lacked ambition to go on and win, was the deadly possession for possessions sake, you have to take chances to win a game.

We took 20 odd passes to get it into their half. They took maximum 3 passes to get into ours.
Passing is one thing. Passing side ways like a crab is another. Like watching kavanagh in his pomp.

I was really disappointed that Hughes chose to patronise the fans in this way. Not cool Hughes, not cool at all. Acting all smug because we got lucky today. Today could have so easily been the same as those previous games if West Ham hadn't missed 5 or 6 clear cut chances to bury us. It almost wreaked of him expecting us to be grateful for whatever he serves up because it isn't Pulisball. He obviously doesn't realise that his brand of football can also be incredibly dull and predictable.

No one wanted us to play long ball because it's wank and we don't have the attacking players to play it. What people might have wanted, was us to move the ball more quickly, with a bit more movement and drive. His tone was patronising and it wasn't necessary. It's obvious he'd been feeling the pressure and he felt West Ham's inability to finish us off was good enough reason for him to have a pop back at those who've been unhappy with our performances of late. Cheap.

Long ball, short ball, I don't care as long as it's round and it's forward. This short ball, ticky tacky ball drives me bonkers. There's a time and place for it, but that doesn't include when you are at home ang 0-1 down, and playing it around in your own half while the opposition is wandering back to defend against us when we finally arrive in their half. West ham, two, three passes and they were buzzing around at the edge of the box. Us, two or three passes and the ball was upfield into their half, then back with Given to start it all over again.Don't want to be too harsh because after all, we did get back into the game and just about deserved the win if only for effort.Good end to the season. Respectable place in the league, never any relegation worries. Roll on next season.

Our movement off the ball is beyond shocking (apart from Arnie) and that is something I expect Hughes to work on for next season. It's obvious to me so it should be obvious to a top level manager.

It was shocking at Palace & Spurs & Southampton, I wouldn't say it was too bad today. We're too static, too easy to mark and often too easy to stop. I'm obviously thrilled with the win and finishing 9th but we have some real basic areas where we can improve massively.

One attempt at goal on the 38th minute is a crowd pleaser and game changer
