Italy to win it?

If England win their group and Italy finish runners-up to Belgium, looks like they'll meet in the Q-Fs if they both get past 3rd place finishers in the last 16 If Italy win their group ahead of the Belgians, they're likely to get the honour of facing the Germans in the last 8. So either way, it'll be arrivederci to Conte's boys at that stage

Ze Germans will win it - they will find their form in the tournament (as they always do) and Muller will score goals at crucial times (as he always does!).

In all seriousness, Hodgson can't seriously take Stones as 3rd choice CB, can he?
Can you imagine him starting in a crucial knock-out game?

In all seriousness, Hodgson can't seriously take Stones as 3rd choice CB, can he? Can you imagine him starting in a crucial knock-out game? It's beyond a joke now how bad he is, if anything, he shouldn't be allowed to humiliate himself at the Euro's because it will ruin his career. Needs taking out of the spotlight and a manager who can organise a defence to help him.

Who else is there?
Is Jones fit? Scott Dann?
Anyone else?

Barkley should be nowhere near the squad on current form. He's done jack shit since the turn of the year, looks unfit and disinterested. I'd honestly take Mark Noble over him especially with Ali and Rooney able to play "in the hole"

How injured is Jagielka? I'd have him over Stones.

Woy will take Stones, but he shouldn't - he has shafted himself as most of the other contenders have not had any England game time and it is a big ask to drop the likes of Dann straight into a tournament. Jagielka is surely a safe pair of hands in these circumstances. Phil Jones is the only other option, but is he fit or injured again?
I think Barkley is worth taking as he may be re-energised with England away from Martinez's Everton shower - he has the ability to turn a game as sub.

What's Wilshere done to make him a must take player? He's not played for months and he's not really any good when he's fit. I'd hope that England have moved past his ilk. He's a complete prick but when fit he's England's best option in that position. He played well when he came in the other day and if the alternatives are Henderson, Milner or Rooney it's a complete no brainer for me. I just don't see the fuss with him. His main trick is losing the ball and falling over, with the addition of making daft tackles that he only gets away with domestically because of the team he plays for. He scores the odd wondergoal, but he's been a liability for his team the vast majority of the time I've seen him play. He's a relic of a past era and should be consigned to the same dustbin as the rest of them. It's a moot point anyway, because there's no way he's fit and match sharp, no way at all. How can you expect a player to hit the ground running in a major tournament having played no competitive football for ten months?

Not playing for so long might even help in that his engine will be fresher. When it comes to daft fouls, yes it is a real blight on his game and he should grow up.

GK: Hart, Forster, Heaton
DEF: Cahill, Smalling, Stones, Clyne Walker, Rose, Bertrand, Jagielka, Cresswell
MID: Dier, Milner, Wilshere, Lallana, Barkley, Alli, SterlingDrinkwater, Henderson (fitness doubt), Carrick, Noble, Delph, Townsend, Walcott, Lingard, Zaha, Antonio, Albrighton
ATT: Kane, Vardy, Sturridge, Rooney Defoe, Rashford, Carroll, DeeneySquad announced on Thursday afternoon apparently. Don't suppose there'll be too many shocks in the 23. Haven't seen anyone suggest Stones is in danger of missing out although there seems to be a bit of a doubt emerging over which defenders he'll be taking because he wants to reduce the number of defenders to 7 to give him greater flexibility further forward. The press also seem to have got the idea that Wilshere is in the squad. TelegraphThe England manager will take five strikers – Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge – and just seven defenders. That means he may take just three specialist full-backs, with potentially Kyle Walker or Danny Rose missing out. Or he may opt for just three specialist centre-backs, leaving out Phil Jagielka, and relying on cover from the likes of Eric Dier in that position
Welbeck's late injury has given him a problem. Will he replace him with a wide player or a striker? And if he's taking a risk on Wilshere, surely he can't go with Henderson too?
Apparently it's not going to be announced now until Monday. I'd go: HART Forster Heaton CLYNE SMALLING CAHILL ROSE Walker Dann Jagielka Bertrand DIER DRINKWATER ROONEY ALLI Townshend Sterling Noble Milner VARDY KANE Defoe Sturridge

The revolutionary aspect is not picking injured and badly out of form players! I like Barkley, but with Alli and Rooney there, his impact is likely to be limited. And he's badly out of form. And he'd be doing Stones a favour by leaving him out. His confidence must be absolutely shot.

England have a major problem with centre backs. Scary. Remember the days when Ledley King and Jamie Carragher could barely get a sniff? If Cahill or Smalling got injured, God help us. If Shawcross was in his usual form, you wonder if he would have ended up forcing Hodgson's hand?

Belgium squad looks good. Ha ha, I'd say that looks 'good' is a bit of an understatement Grapey! I thought "bloody hell, that's brave, only 4 midfielders", until I realised they included the wide men (Hazard, De Bruyne etc) with the attackers. That is surely a "semis at least" squad.
