I'm not so sure! Before anyone jumps at me I'm not necessarily saying that he should go. Just a weird feeling that he's lost some control and respect and although I know he's never been the outrageously demonstrative type he does seem to be at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I realise our season has been stop-start due to injury after injury and that must take the wind out of your sails when you have to keep chopping and changing BUT we seem to have lost the passion and the fight which sometimes means that the Boss has lost that too. Now, pepple dont get to be multi-millionaires/billionaires without a ruthless business streak. I'm intrigued by the fact that a few years ago when Benitez was twiddling his thumbs he seemed to spend a bit of time hanging out with us. Friend of Tone's? mate of Uncle Pete's? Funny as he's back in the country which he's made home but a little far away in the North East. We'd now be perfect for him. I wonder if someone's been whispering similar words in Mr Hughes' ear? There's nothing like feeling you've lost the support of your upper management to put a dampener on things and players can always tell when something's amiss and usually let it effect them, bless 'em I could be talking complete hogwash though.Just a few thoughts like

I hope not. He has not able to influence confidence of the players. He is not able to kick the lazy b-stards up the arse. He hasn't got enough clout with the players I believe.

Yes he will and yes he should BUT the question marks are starting to appear. I'm beginning to wonder whether the players care about playing for Stoke. We've lost the never say die togetherness we once had. I'm not calling for Hughes' head but I do think there are questions to ask about his recruitment policy and character of the players we have. The Premier League is moving on to a counter attacking fast paced game and we don't have the players to cope with that.

If Rafa is available then who knows? I believe he still has his mansion on the Wirral where the wife loves it.

He will be unless someone in the boardroom is feeling very brave ( bookies tend not to go for big gambles) .

Is this how we treat the man who took us to a league cup semifinal this season & has already broken our record point tally 2 years in a row, by talking behind his back about a possible replacement while he's in charge? This is the sort of crap you expect at clubs like Chelsea & Citeh, not Stoke. If the time comes & Hughes loses the trust of the board, he goes. Simple as that but there's a certain way to treat people & this is just ludicrous. Benitez has already turned us down twice. If you could convince him to come, I'd happily give Hughes his resignation check but it's not going to happen and we probably can't even afford a manager of his stature. Hughes is the lowest paid manager in the premier league. He's not here for the money, he can fuck off whenever he wants & earn twice the amount of money. There's more than enough clubs across the world who'd be happy to have him as their manager. He's here only because Uncle Pete requested him to take over Stoke. So show some respect, you might miss him once he's gone.

he should be if he's prepared to swing the axe, we don't need to fall into the trap of changing managers every season the players don't perform because they know it's the manager that loses his position at this club not the players. Wether Hughes is the right man for that, no idea. There is a lot to be said for having continuity of managers

Hughes is the best man for Stoke no question. The players have bottled it this past 2 months and our slump is down to them. Butland has been superb this season but no way has he been that amazing so as to hide the fact that the rest of the team isn't. I trust Hughes to sort it out and push us towards top 6 next season

I wasn't suggesting that he should go I was just offering a scenario. Now, football's about results and success. Success is not going backwards. Results have recently been dire. Do you really think that the powers that be haven't discussed the situation? As I was truely thankful to Tone for getting us to where he did I'm thankful for Hughes breathing new life into us. Doesn't mean to say that he'll be forever though. Remember, just a few weeks ago he was being linked to Everton himself. We're also a slightly different animal from the one that Rafa possibly didn't fancy (if indeed he ever was considered) before. There's a lot more money aswell I would imagine. You're absolutely right that there's a certain way to treat people aswell, Truth is, in many walks of life and business harsh decisions are made whether we like them or not.

Hughes was a hard nut has a player. He needs to show that in management,by kicking quite a few of our players up the Arse, and tell them to shape up or ship out. When the going gets tough the tough get going, so come on Mr. Hughes, lets have some of that toughness you had as a player and show the idle feckers who is boss. If the players don't like it they can fuck off up the Vale.

I wonder if he wants to be. He has restored his reputation and may be thinking about a bigger club; a rubbish end to the season may make Stoke more willing to let him go if approached! In an ideal world for him we would sack him and he could walk in to the Everton job with a nice severance package; unfortunately for him I can't see that happening.

I've had reservations about Hughes since day 1 BUT he's been massively unlucky with injuries this season.
Coates will not sack the manager responsible for the performances we saw this year against Man City, Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool away in the cup, and Everton away.
I'm sure there will be a frank exchange of views at the end of the season but I would expect Coates to favour continued stability. However, we must get off to a better start next season and not accept any of this "we're always stronger in the second half of the season" nonsense.
If he does decide to fire Hughes (or if Hughes decides to go) my shortlist would include Howe, Benitez and Moyes who all have premier league experience, and Warburton.

However, he's made next season incredibly difficult for himself, this is arguably his most important summer he's had with us so far.
