This is the only game I regret never going. I couldn't bear listening to it on the radio either.

Wasn't it a bubble trip? Does that mean a Stokie living in Bristol had to travel up to Stoke to get the coach then get home from Stoke after the game ? I'd arranged my appointments in Cardiff that day and booked hotel through work, only to find out travel was by official coach only and tickets given on arrival. Even my pal Dave kevan could not get around it. After the 1st leg even at 2.1 down I had a feeling. We were utter garbage in the home leg and 2.1 Was something of a let off.

He'd already been ill and recovered in time for this game. Deep Vein Thrombosis or something similar. I know one regular poster on here who had a ticket for the game and gave it away cos he was so sure we'd blown it. I mercilessly take the piss to this day for that. And that his wife had booked him a holiday that meant he missed the 5-0 v Bolton. Funny as. I paid good money for that ticket I'll have you know Still fresh in my memory, a wonderful night that reminded us all why we love the game and our club. Wish I could have been there! BM

One of a few games that I actually still remember like it was yesterday.
Smuggling some booze onto the bus, watching 'Road Trip' as we travelled (the bus had tellies). Thinking it was strange how much room we had in the away end (was it 800 odd tix sold?). Thinking this was going to be our night when LFW missed that header from point blank range. The mentals for the goals and then the final whistle. That announcement while the dickhead sheepshaggers did that sam hamman thing in the paddock next to us. The longest I have ever been held back in a ground after the game. Lines of coppers forming a tunnel of baying welsh knobs chucking bricks etc as we got back on the coaches.
What a night.

I was at the beam back. It was pretty good.

No one on the Bus that had its turbo go on the way home and finally give up the ghost at Rhos on Wye? Had to wait for a replacement. Got home at something like 4am.
633 squadron.

Went to all the FA Cup matches/replays at the start of the 70's and the League Cup Final in '72 and probably all the 'best' matches since then, however, I still rate that trip to Cardiff as my best footballing experience with Stoke. I am 60 in a couple of years so I suppose there's still time for a Champions League Final win to eclipse it !!!!!
