Great night, Cardiff took things for granted and paid the price, excellent.

A glorious evening and have never scored a goal like it since!
It was the more enjoyable for feeling so confident, later justified, about the prospective final, just down the road, s wonderful venue and a great day.

Wasn't it a bubble trip? Does that mean a Stokie living in Bristol had to travel up to Stoke to get the coach then get home from Stoke after the game ?

I think they could park at a service station on the M4 on the outskirts of Cardiff and a coach would pick them up from there. I am not sure if this was well communicated by the club at the time as I know some people who wanted to go but thought they could only get the coach from Stoke.

May 1st is always a special day for me. Nothing we have done since, including promotion and the FA Cup Semi Final, has surpassed this moment for me yet, and unless we do a Leicester I'm not sure anything will. I live in hope though.

amazing stuff -to this day
after the first leg, everyone (myself included) thought we were dead and buried
and those hardy few supporters who were there -
how can you possibly compare them, to what we got now ?

Whilst the winning goal went to James O'Connor, via a famous deflection off Souleymane Oulare derrière. As a postscript, I recall that Oulare never played for Stoke again after falling seriously ill days later. I remember seeing a piece where John Rudge went with him to the hospital because he had no family here and couldn't speak english. Rudgey said he didn't realise at the time how seriously ill he was - think from memory it was not certain that he would pull through (blood clot?).
I'm pretty sure he has a son who plays in Belgium.

I wonder if Souleymane Oulare has actually set foot in Stoke-On-Trent since that day in Cardiff? Maybe Wilko could get him back for his testimonial and we could give him the belated hero's welcome he deserves.

He'd already been ill and recovered in time for this game. Deep Vein Thrombosis or something similar. I know one regular poster on here who had a ticket for the game and gave it away cos he was so sure we'd blown it. I mercilessly take the piss to this day for that. And that his wife had booked him a holiday that meant he missed the 5-0 v Bolton. Funny as.

Went to a pub in Brentford to watch the champions league game - couldn't bear to follow it online. Got many funny looks walking back to my mates in my Stoke shirt to catch the end of the game on the radio.

An honourable mention to Deon Burton who kept that tie alive and set us on our way in the final.

I LOVED hearing the sheep shaggers sing Men of Harlech. The words went "La la la la la la la." They must have got the words out of "Singing for Dummies."
