Didn't play well yesterday, but don't think that it was his fault, Austria kept taking the ball down the right ,even though the player out there had no pace or ability to get round his man. Arnie spent most of his time at left back. Very strange tactics yesterday, overall.

Had to feel for Arnie when their no. 20 (?) took that shite free kick ahead of our Marko. Looked proper dejected, and rightly so. Austria were let off the hook last night.

He hasn't done enough at the euros to suggest anyone bigger than us in the prem will come in for him. Or the big European leagues to be fair.
Arnie is suited to being the big fish in a smaller club than getting lost or not playing at a bigger one, all whilst on a massive wage.
Just sign Arnie and concentrate on playing well for us

I disagree. Arnie strikes me as incredibly ambitious, I'm almost certain he will go and I think when he does it'll be to a club playing European football. Begovic left for money, can't believe he turned down Roma the shithouse. Maybe his wife didnt want to move to Italy and leave their home and her equastrian centre ? Maybe, in that case hold out for another offer. He was always going to be backup to Courtois at Chelsea, the move worked just fine for us I was always happy but we saw a very good keeper in Bego and you wonder how many more will see it really. |

As I have put on the match thread . I think Arnie would be better staying with us now he has settled and has a role as a star here . His two games in the Euros have not convinced me if he moved he would not end up as a bench warmer at a bigger club .

He stands a better chance of getting a big move playing for Stoke than he does playing for Austria, apart from Alaba (who has also been poor) the Austria team is a bit poo, Stoke players actively seek Marko out because he's dangerous, Austrian players avoided him like the plague and that poor free kick after Alaba went off was the final kick in the teeth

I didn't watch the first game but was anyone else surprised at how fucking woeful Austria were?
I watched them a couple of times in qualifying and I've had £30 on them to get to the semis along with the Germans and French.
Did anybody else notice as well that the right winger was actually the worst footballer they've seen since Kevin Harper?

He's playing in the worse side I've seen in the euros so far thought Turkey were bad but Austria are gash and all the hype around them before the tournament started very disappointed

Nightmare tournament for Arnie so far.
A clever club will look beyond it and still see £12.5m as a good deal, but he won't have caught any eyes.
Still can't think of many clubs with both the necessary cash and profile who'd offer him a better overall platform that he has here. There are probably less than 10 clubs who fit the bill and the chances of any of them pulling the trigger are pretty slim

He hasn't been atrocious, forward players have to get the ball passed to them to judge if they're playing shit or not, so far he's been overlooked to take a freekick and now he gets a penalty taken off him?! If it was Alaba fair enough but a fucking CB?!?
He's putting the work in but unfortunately one (or two) players don't make a team, he can only do so much on his own
As always, many posters more than willing to shit on Stoke players for anything and everything

Realistically, where would he go though? If he's aiming for £70k+ and regular football, there are probably only 10, at most, viable destinations for him in Europe who could offer the fee, wages and improved sporting situation. Don't think he'll interest the absolute top clubs so there's maybe 3 or 4 options in England (Leics, West Ham, Soton, Everton?), a couple at most in Germany , a couple in Spain, a couple in Italy? Will one of them bite the bullet and single him out for what will be a massive package for pretty much any club outside the Premier League? Still think it's very unlikely. Haven't heard any murmurings about interest from the kind of clubs who may tick the boxes. Everton's the only name we've heard so far that sounds vaguely plausible. |
