Joint 55th Philp Rawlins age 46 club stoke city new entry Worth £30M
Philip Rawlins was born in the Longton area of Stoke-on-Trent and is a passionate Stoke City fan. He sits on the board and is regarded with huge affection by Potters' fans. In his youth Rawlins was a season ticket-holder for 15 years. His creditionals are spotless - a supporter since the age of six, he flew back from his American home to stand on the Boothen End one last time in the very last game at the Victoria Ground. After leaving Cauldon College, he took a job in Bristol with Hewlett Packard but it wasn't too long before he and a colleague went into business. "We called it The Sales Consultancy and we were just a two-man business working from home offering sales training for hi-tech firms , " reaveals Rawlins . " It quickly grew and before long we were opening offices in Paris and Germany. Our reputation was growing and most of our customers were US multi-nationals ; in 1995, the decion was made to open up a US office and it was a decision made easier because my wife is American and wanted to go back home." In Januray 1999, the business merged with another company to Effectively double its size. Rawlins and his partners later sold the Dallas -based operation for $260M . We assume that Rawlins will have had a quater of the shares, worth $65M , or about £32M . He has put around £1.5M into his Stoke; after that donation we assume he should be worth £30M .
I'll type Peter Coates up in a minute .

31 Peter Coates age 68 Club Stoke city Last Year 57= (£35M) Worth £80M
A miner's son, Potteries-based Peter Coates founded Stadia Catering in 1968 to provide food and drink at football clubs . He grew the business to the point where most football grounds were supplied by his business, later named Lindley Catering Investments. But his real route to wealth came in 1974 when he opened three bookmaking shops. he built up The Provincial Racing chain of bbokmakers, which grew to 49 shops and later changed its name to Bet365. Now a leading online bookmaking operation, it made £3.1m profit on £446m sales in 2003/4, Coates sold the 49 strong chain of shops in july 2005 to concentrate on the online business, netting about £40M . He was chairman of Stoke City until 1998 when he sold 66 percent of the club to an Icelandic consortium in a deal which kept him on the board. Recently he had been trying to buy out the Icelandic owners in a £4m deal but pulled out after selling the betting shops. A leading donor to the Labour Party, Coates has a number of other interests in property, cleaning and catering. With his remaining assests in Bet365, the sale proceeds, the Coates family-should easily be worth £80M after tax

I just can't work Peter Coates out. He has made a fortune out of his businesses, and is, by the standards of most of us, absolutely 'rolling in it'. He has a traditional Potteries-style working class background, his father having been a miner, so surely understands what true hardship is and can identify with the ordinary working man, and presumably because of this recognises the Labour Party as a worthwhile entity to which to donate huge chunks of money. He IS a lifelong Stoke fan, there's no denying that, and so MUST understand both the passion, frustration and great hunger for success that most Stoke fans have shared over the last 20 years. He's also knocking on a bit, and knows he won't be around for ever.
All of this points to a MASSIVE opportunity to fulfill the dreams of this football club and in particular its supporters (including himself, presumably) by taking over, ploughing some money in and ensuring a return, at last, to the top flight of English football that we all want so badly. Yet he steadfastly refuses to take a chance and offer more than a minimal sum for the club; his first period in charge saw him putting in a net figure of absolutely zero despite the fact that the club was seriously floundering and in danger of reaching a new low on and off the field, which it eventually did, of course, and he stood by and watched while the club and its supporters went through a hell that even now we haven't fully recovered from. And still he isn't willing to grasp the bull by the horns (sorry about the cliché), take over and make things happen.
Like I said, for the life of me I just cannot understand the bloke.

Why didn't this bastard invest then? John Madejski John Robert Madejski, born Robert John Hurst on April 28 1941 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, is a British businessman, mainly active in publishing and the hotel industry. As of 2004, he is in the top 200 wealthiest people in the UK, with a net worth said to be in the region of £305 million (see Sunday Times Rich List 2004). He changed his name when his father, a Polish airman during World War II, returned to Britain to marry his mother. Madejski became chairman of Football League club Reading F.C. in 1990, and has given his name to the club's Madejski Stadium, built in 1998 with £25 million largely contributed by him. He is also a benefactor to the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, London and in 2004 had the John Madejski Fine Rooms named after him in recognition of a contribution of £3 million to the institution. The John Madejski Centre for Reputation at Henley Management College, a lecture theatre at the University of Reading and a gallery at the Museum of Reading also bear his name. Madejski is active in politics: he has contributed extensively to the Conservative Party and was vociferous in his calls for the removal of the then party leader Iain Duncan Smith in 2003.
While on holiday in Florida in the mid 1970s Madejski saw a car sales magazine that included pictures of the vehicles on sale. He immediately realised the potential of the idea, and founded Thames Valley Trader in 1976. Initially the magazine sold anything and everything, from houses to cars and even aircraft, but it soon concentrated solely on vehicles, and was renamed Auto Trader. In 1998 he sold his company Hurst Publishing for £174 million.
In 2000 he was awarded the OBE in "recognition of his contribution to Reading Football Club and the Reading community". He is also Deputy Lieutenant of Berkshire.
He owns a large number of luxury cars, owning a couple of Rolls-Royces, two Bentleys, four Jaguars, an AC Cobra and a pair of Ferraris, including a red Testarossa which sits inside a glass case in the gym of his home.
Madejski has two children, but has never married. He made front-page headlines in UK tabloid newspapers in October 2004 due to his alleged romantic attachment with singer and TV star Cilla Black. The pair became friends due to their mutual affiliation with the Conservative Party.

He probably didn't invest in Stoke because of the type of attitude that TokyoJoe has. Ah well our loss is Readings gain, I'm sure their supporters don't have a problem with him being a Tory or dating Cilla. Just look what he has done for Reading F.C , makes our outfit and stadium look 2 bob.

Also that MR M has made no secret of the fact that he thinks Stoke is a complete and utter dump and he never wants to have anything to do with it.
