Christ, I so hope they (really, really pretty please!) keep to the minimalist production for the rest of what's about to come, this is how we want Lana ... Norman F******g Rockwell was stunning, this sounds even better, bring it on

Fantastic, years since I heard that. You can just feel the seeds of the Ride A White Swan riff in those opening few bars. And what a great album cover that is, he really was a good looking bloke wasn't he! In 1972 (I was 6) my parents had a Spar franchise and sometimes I'd go with my Dad up to the Cash & Carry to get the stock. One morning we were going in and by the entrance, they had some MFP Ride A White Swan compilations going cheap. I pleaded with my Dad to buy me one, I'm pretty sure they were £0.79 and less than half the normal retail price, he said he'd think about it and I spent the next hour terrified that we'd be leaving the store without one. Anyhow, we got to the tills with a ton of stock for the shop and then my Dad said, "oh we need to get that record of yours as well, don't we?" ... I nearly wet myself! But it got even better ... next to the stack of T. Rex compilations, was a Contour compilation also going cheap with T. Rex, Joe Cocker, Procul Harum and The Move on it (who I didn't know any of at the time). And my Dad said, "look, this one has got T.Rex on it too and I like Joe Cocker myself, so shall we get this one as well and you can lend it to me when I want to listen to Joe Cocker?" "Oh yes please and thank you, I said." And I returned to the car clutching the first two records that I had ever owned, it was one of the best days of my life! Elemental Child was the last track on side two of that compilation and I absolutely adored it! I loved every single track on that album but there was something about Elemental Child that took me to another place. Quite often, when there was a family outing, to the sea side or the zoo etc. (I had two younger brothers) I would feign illness, just so that I could be alone with that album and do my crazy six year old, demented ballet all around the living room to the whole record, always, ultimately, leading to that final crescendo that was Elemental Child! And completely by accident, I was introduced to this masterpiece on that same day ...

Almost Proustian Paul....Fantastic. 😉👌 Not only does this thread throw up a multiplicity of great new recommendations and forgotten diamonds,it prompts some brilliant associations. Amazing how music possesses the power to stimulate us to our core from the foetus right through to the deepest dementia sufferer.

And completely by accident, I was introduced to this masterpiece on that same day ... Oh the love we had for the first records we ever owned. In 1971 my pocket money stretched to about one single per month. Get It On by T. Rex was maybe the 5th or 6th single I ever bought. At the time we didn't have a record player so I had to go round to my grandparent's house to play it. I kept it by the side of my bed. After Brown Sugar by the Stones it's my favourite record of all time. It's got a great B side as well (Raw Ramp). For the next couple of years I bought the new T. Rex single as soon as it came out. By 1972 I could occasionally afford an LP and Bolan Boogie was probably the first one I got. That was great because it had Ride A White Swan and Hot Love on it, and I hadn't got them on singles. By then we'd got a record player so I could actually play them whenever I wanted! I never heard Elemental Child until much later when Universal / A&M released some really nicely curated CD versions of the Tyrannosaurus Rex and early T.Rex albums with loads of bonus tracks (2004). I've got these versions of the Unicorn, A Beard Of Stars and T.Rex albums. A Beard Of Stars has got a bonus 6 minute version of Elemental Child on it (Take 1) but just listening to it now it's very similar to the released version.

If this song doesn't get you in some way you must be dead This is certainly my wife's (Dee) favourite Neil Young song, whenever he has played this live when we've gone to see him, she goes totally mental ... she considers this to be her song. Every once in a while, I think I'll treat her to one of those Harley Davidson experiences for her birthday but I always forget to book it before it's too late. I'm making a commitment now ... when all this Covid shit get's sorted, I'm getting right on it. Such a beautiful song.

Warpaint's debut ' The Fool' turned 10 years old the other day... time sure does fly, can't believe I was 20 when it came out.

9 minutes and 31 seconds that could change your life!
I was chopping down a palm tree When a friend dropped by to ask If I would feel less lonely If he helped me swing the axe I said, "no, it's not a case of being lonely We have here I've been working on this palm tree For eighty seven years" He said, "go get lost" And walked towards his Cadillac I chopped down the palm tree And it landed on his back
