I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said I've listened to this song over a thousand times since it was first released and yet I've listened to it just now and it's blown my brains out like I've just heard it for the first ever time ... Stephin Merritt giving a fairly straight rendition.

I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said I've listened to this song over a thousand times since it was first released and yet I've listened to it just now and it's blown my brains out like I've just heard it for the first ever time ... I guess that you already know this Paul, knowing your knowledge of the music industry ( I do actually listen to other music, sometimes) Even Bowie was a big Elvis fan. www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jan/21/elvis-presley-david-bowie-produce-record-request-country-star-dwight-yoakamWatch "BOWIE COVERS ELVIS ~ LIVE 2002" on YouTube The Nairobi Times, Bowie drinking milk and blood. Yes I've heard that story before John. If I'm honest, I've always wondered if there was much truth to it. If it was true, I can't believe that Bowie himself wouldn't have dropped it in one of the many interviews he did in the thirty years following. Who knows? But what I didn't realise until I read that Guardian piece, was that they both shared the same birthday ... you learn something new everyday! Any excuse ...

Blimey, I'd forgotten all about this, in fact there's a good chance that I haven't actually heard it since the 70's and more to the point, I hadn't realised just how much they'd influenced Daft Punk (and on so many levels) ... jeez, I've just wiki'd them and it turns out that they're only bloody French too!

Christ, I so hope they (really, really pretty please!) keep to the minimalist production for the rest of what's about to come, this is how we want Lana ...

I heard it on Gambaccini's chart show yesterday and I also haven't heard it for years but it still sounds fresh. The bloody French have got it absolutely spot on with that aspect of their music.

Fantastic, years since I heard that. You can just feel the seeds of the Ride A White Swan riff in those opening few bars. And what a great album cover that is, he really was a good looking bloke wasn't he!

I was on an exchange visit to France in the summer of 77 and me and this French lad were let loose in Paris for a week with no parents anywhere to be seen. I remember being in this apartment near the Champs Elysees and these French youngsters were playing the full Magic Fly album on repeat all afternoon, like it was the next best thing. This would have been just before it became a hit single in the UK.
