Bang on target for this with exactly 1.5pts per game average. Could be good enough for 8th but probably not Europe? Anyway its great to see the 40pt mark smashed in record time leaving 10 games to achieve something special.
Tough fixtures have brought the best out of us this season and now we have back to back wins against lesser teams at home. So nothing to fear in the run in but the Chelsea game coming up is by far the toughest test remaining. Will probably be 1 step back then 2 step forwards. Feels like thats hows its been under Hughes for a while and I'm not complaining.
Progress is progress no matter what the whingers say.

Southampton finished 7th last season with 60 points, that's got to be the target if we are serious about European football next season.

I think we hit this total at the same point last year then lost three in a row...then kicked on again I reckon 58 is doable and could get us 7th but Liverpool and Everton have game in hand (v each other) and Chelsea look ominous. If we start actually playing well then who knows ????

Do you think manchester city away is easy We've won there before and their form is shit compared to Chelseas. But to answer your silly question, no.

We've got some very important games still to come against the teams around us.
Chelsea away Southampton home Watford away Liverpool away West Ham home (last game of the season!)
Would be massive if we could beat Southampton and West Ham and pick up the odd draw elsewhere.

It's going to be extremely difficult for us to get into a top 7 position this season, realistically speaking
However we have the foundations of a very good side and if we manage to keep our prize possessions and make a couple of good signings in summer then next year we should be able to become less erratic, drop less points against the lesser teams and do the quantum leap forward we all wish for

In our previous seasons under Hughesy we've got 20 from last 10 in 2013-14, and 12 from 10 last season. Split the difference and we get 16, making 58, might be 7th (it's the average points required for 7th in last 12 seasons), boom!
That would be a really good achievement without a settled first choice front player and with so many injuries.

What's our run-in like compared to the teams around us?

With the teams in and around us we could seriously finish 11th this season. Not being pessimistic, just realistic.
