Absolute madness, going to be on ridiculous wages and aged 34. Massive risk. Just like when they gave Nolan a 5 year deal aged 31

Absolute madness, going to be on ridiculous wages and aged 34. Massive risk. No risk though with the amount of money they'll be making out of the Olympic Stadium deal. Looks to me like he's called the deal by threatening to go to China if they didn't massively increase his wages. Could cause problems if they pay up after being held to ransom when other players come knocking.

Contracts mean very little these days,if he has another season like he has this,he will be off.
I'd be very surprised if he's still at West Ham at the end of his contract.

I think the age thing is a big issue no other club would be silly enough to put him on such a long deal so I cant see him leaving. Chelsea have got it right when they said they wont offer a player more than a 2 year deal once he gets to 30.

Supposedly (according to some hammers on r/soccer) the contract should be about 95-100K a week. Any major injury from really about now in his career could spell utter disaster, very risky.

Absolute madness, going to be on ridiculous wages and aged 34. Massive risk. We've given Crouch, Walters and Odemwinge contracts amounting to 5 years. I bet they get more out of him in 5 years than we get out of these 3.

Nice to see my tax money funding west hams stadium is allowing ridiculous sums to be paid to a player who has had half a good season Also keep hearing on phone ins how happy the west ham fans are with the ticket prices, when every one else is up in arms about them. Before any one says "they have to fill the new ground"thats why they are a low price. They would not be paying those low prices if it was not for the rest of us giving them that help hand.

Good deal for Payet and the club. His basic has only risen slightly, has an improved appearance fee and assuming he hits all the contract triggers won't be on more than £125K pw (still obscene I know) which would now make him our highest paid player. Given the Chinese money and new TV deal, £20m by the summer will only buy a bit of average.
I can't see that WHU or the player can lose really given how he's performed and even if Payet's head get's turned by a bigger club - he's going to cost £30m+ just to buy him out of his contract. Similar to the Bojan deal to keep him locked in.
Neither is 33/34 old at the end of his contract and I'd rather an old Payet than an old Nolan or a perma crocked younger Carroll.
We've also Lanzini who's expected to sign permanently (£7m) next month and the young kid Samuelson who we got on a free - so our attacking midfield options are looking good.
Can some of you finally get over the OS deal - take it out on Coe and Levy - that's why the tax-payer is funding this government project. As for our tickets - we've been charging home and away support over £50 for CAT A games for years - I recently paid £80 V Liverpool and the place still sells out. Market forces (regrettably) dictate.

Samuelson, we picked up from City's academy last summer - they simply let him go?? Their policy of buying up all the good kid's so no-one else can have them seems to have back-fired this time!!
I saw him make his debut in one of our Euro qualifiers and showed plenty of promise but clearly still a youth so I hope he continues to gain first team experience on loan for a while longer but his performances for Peterborough suggest he might get a look-in by the start of next season - we'll see.

Have West Ham effectively gone "Super Sized", in other words is there now a "Big 7" or whatever that would make it?
I think they probably have or shortly will.
I must admit I feel my heart sink each time another club does go super-sized, it leaves fewer and fewer clubs fighting to avoid the Prem relegation trap door each season.

I must admit I feel my heart sink each time another club does go super-sized, it leaves fewer and fewer clubs fighting to avoid the Prem relegation trap door each season. There's a thread on Kumb started by an ITK some time back suggesting that we're to expect significant overseas investment (not a take-over) later this year - more than likely from China. Whether this would put us in the big money league I don't know but right now I'm just pleased we're taking steps to secure the long-term contracts of our best players. Right now we're the same as all the other middling club's and it's only our higher revenue through gate money and commercial/corporate income that differentiates WHU from Stoke by about £20m t/o p.a. The move to the OS will probably increase that gap but I can't see us as things currently stand catching Spurs, Liverpool let alone Arsenal, Man C, Chelsea and Salford. The naming rights for the new stadium WHU only get a small percentage from apparently - but it is our presence in the stadium which makes it lucrative for government and attractive for sponsors.

Interesting. I think there is probably room for 1 or 2 more super-sized clubs in London to join Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs simply based on todays population and projected growth and WHU look best placed to be that team. Palace also have great potential, I was looking at South London demographics and there are 5 Boroughs in the immediate catchment area of Palace each with populations greater than the entire Potteries conurbation! I must admit I don't like it, it smacks more of the Balance Sheet than the glory game but it is the harsh truth.
