Hi Roy, so why isn't Ryan Shawcross in the England reckoning?
Well, look at today's result. Another 3-0 defeat.
Yes, but he didn't play.
Ah, but players ahead of him includes Stones, an Everton player
Er ... he didn't play either
So, you admit, he didn't concede. I think you can see why your question was foolish.

Oh yeah it's so hard to be the highest paid international manager in world football who picks a squad based on the prestige of the clubs the players play for. And then all he has to do is achieve mediocrity and he'll get a new contract. His life really is a battle at the moment.

Funny how he turns up at Stoke when Ryan isn't playing, isn't it? He was guest of honour at the Stanley Matthews Foundation dinner on Friday evening, so presumably it was an obvious time to go to a Stoke game, and had Ryan been fit would have seen him. Nigel Johnson did a Q & A with him, and Nige's very first question was about Shawcross, reminding him that his only cap was a baptism of fire coming on as sub against one of the world's top players, and asking for an assurance that the door isn't closed on Ryan. Nige was actually quite assertive with some direct questioning on it. As you would expect, he got the assurance, and RH praised Ryan's contribution to Stoke. But he also said that we have a lot of talented centre backs at the moment and that if anyone is going to break into that group, they would have to do something very special, which didn't sound too optimistic to me. He also said that when he goes to Palace, people say similar things about Scott Dann. When Nige said that Ryan would be bitterly disappointed to be unfit on a day RH was there, RH said, that didn't matter because he gets reports on every game played by a english-qualified player who he might be considering. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just reporting back on what he said. I was quite impressed with Nige probing on it quite assertively.

Scott Dann isn't on Shawcross's level, but then again neither are Stones, Jones and Jagielka. The fact that Hodgson puts Shawcross in a bracket with Dann and behind the other three mentioned shows what an incompetent senile old bitch he is.

Wow Teams like Denmark and Greece have won major tournaments with far less resources at their disposable yet we should be grateful for a manager like Hosgson getting us into a major tournament and then doing jack shit?
